"Serious composers of Japanese music" forward!
I was 1 for 2 on this one: Quote: Y100219JP
COMPOSERS OF JAPANESE MUSIC NEEDED by a Music Producer who is creating a new independent music library and already has several TAXI composers under his roof. All styles of Japanese music are welcome. Instrumentals ONLY! He is currently the provider of music for a huge daytime television talk show but wants to make clear that the Composers he signs to the library will focus on the other projects he is involved in and will not compete with the Composers working on the talk show. You MUST be able to work as a team player, take direction and deliver on time. He is open to both domestic and international writers. He needs someone who uses high quality samples and has state-of-the-art equipment. His deal offer is non-exclusive (except with other libraries) and you keep 100% of the writer's share. All submissions need to be Broadcast Quality. Please submit two to three instrumentals online or per CD, include Bio. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Friday, February 19, 2010. TAXI #Y100219JP My piece "Folding Fan" made it through; my piece "Playful Duel" was returned with the "Music" box checked. Both pieces are on my TAXI page. I was concerned that "Playful Duel" was perhaps too dissonant-sounding for this kind of listing, but I stuck to a (purportedly) traditional koto tuning and a pseudo-improvisational style in an attempt at authenticity. Ah well! At least I got one through!

CK, you are turning Japanese ! The thing is I have no idea to compose Japanese traditional music. im fully westernized as i picked up playing the guitar after I came to London. so cool you are able to do something like this ! Shakuhachi sounds quite authentic !!

Shakuhachi sounds quite authentic !! LOL! Thanks, Taeko! I was hoping I'd hear from you about this one. The shakuhachi is from EWQL RA, and I did work darned hard on making it sound realistic - but as library sounds go, it is very good. To research, I went on Amazon and got some traditional tracks to listen to, and then "Westernized" my piece a little by adding the drums for interest. By that I mean, they are trad drums, but the koto/shakuhachi tracks I listened to had no drums - just the two pitched instruments, no "dressing" like I added. The one that didn't get forwarded, "Playful Duel," I stuck to just the two instruments, and got no love. I was kind of curious how this would turn out given the phrase "all styles welcome"... love to hear the other pieces that go through. Thanks for the cheers, everybody!

Re: "Serious composers of Japanese music" forward!
CK, i think you can do a westernized version of "playful duel", with pitch correction as American superviosors have no idea about different kind of tunings and they are not so familiar with authentic music.
once i was asked to do Japanese pop music for film/tv (it was a collab work), i was thinking of latest J-pop hits would sound ok. but they actually think J-pop is western pop with Japanese lyrics, which is compeletely different from authentic J-Pop.
yes, westernization of real music may be the key !!
CK, you rock !!
