Tough question; it varies some by what I'm working on, but if I had to narrow it down to three, they'd be Fairfax 2 (Gretsch Round Badge; so well-integrated, with such impeccable cymbal choices and tuning that makes the entire kit speak as a single voice, and what a voice! ) Black Velvet (DW Collector's Series; as bombastic as Keith Moon on Red Bull, yet as smooth as Bond, James Bond) and Indie. (Ice Custom; lots of grit and heft, with possibly the best tom, kick and snare sounds of the bunch) The Funk, Fairfax 1 and United Pop kits are great, too, though I've barely scratched the surface of the latter. (hint; it absolutely kills, for reggae) I've built lotsa Frankenstein kits, too; some, I like even better than the factory kits. Thanks to Cyber Monday, I now own everything, but for a few percussion kitpieces and some MIDI titles.
