Post Hello I'm Magne!

Hi everyone!

Just introducing myself. Hope I've found the right spot..

My name is Magne Kolstad.

I'm a 39 year old Norwegian native living in Denmark working on my songwriting and producing skills, and networking on the Internet. I mainly write contemporary country, but also aim to produce tv/film tracks on the side. I joined Taxi this summer, and have had some returns already ;)

I write lyrics and music, play guitars of all sorts, and work daily on my producing skills. I am able to produce decent demos in several genres, and sing a scratch vocal, but I have 20-30% up to good pro level standard. Once in a while I get lucky :-) But thats not good enough, right..

So I use demo services for songs I hope to market in Nashville, but humbly pitch my own tv/film tracks once in a while. Still struggling to learn how to write and produce those properly, though. At the level I'm at, I find producing really time consuming, so when the funds are there, I prefer to have demos done to free up time to write (not for tv/film stuff, though - masterrates are way too expensive for me).

Sometimes I use forums like these to post worktapes for feedback, and then rework my songs until I'm happy, then get pro critiques, rework again and pro demo if the song is marketable. Thats my process most of the time, and most of my songs never enter that final stage (I hope it's not because of the process ;D). I write 200+ songs a year. I've been playing music and sporadically writing for 20+ years, but I first started to pursue songwriting seriously in 2008.

I've been collaborating long distance with lyricists and other songwriters all over the US, and lately done Nashville writing sessions long distance on Skype, too. In rare occations I collaborate for equal shares of copyright, but I don't do work-for-hire, unless for a trade-off (overdubs ect.). So if you'll swap a piano track for a guitar track once in a while, get in touch.

I have no track record as we speak, so my current project is to build a portfolio of competitive material. I hope to make it to Nashville and the Taxi Road Rally in a couple of years, when I got things together a little better (a portfolio and some great songs). I live just a few hours travel from London, so that is also a musical center for me (but mostly I'm a homebody, and sometimes don't see the sun for days due to writing, tracking, mixing ect).

But I don't want to write a thesis or my lifestory, so thanks for taking the time to get to know something about me! I hope it was not enough :D

I look forward to get to know more about you all and your music, share experiences and contribute anywhere I can, and just hang out in here.

If you are interested in more info stuff, feel free to visit my website www.thesongcabinet.com. I won't bite and I won't try to sell you anything (like if I could!).

Just wanted to say 'hi', before I try to join in on some of the great threads you have in here, and make a fool of myself.

See you around!

I tried to respond to your post, but here's a certain language barrier here. I even listened to one song, but then the link seemed to magically change . . .
I'm sure others are having the saame problem.

Hi Magne, welcome to the Taxi forums. Seems to me you have the right attitude to insure success in your musical endeavors. Good luck! You might find the Peer to Peer section helpful.

Cheers, Elser

Hi ottluck,

Thanks for trying!
You must have visited the bad link I provided, got that fixed now.

Not sure about the changing link, though. Sounds like something from Star Trek to me. I'm a big fan, but these changelinks shouldn't be allowed to cause trouble outside the show ;D
