TODAY, February 14th at 4pm (PST) / 7pm (EST) Dear Passengers,
Set a reminder alarm on your computer or phone so you don't miss today's TAXI TV show with special guest, Jay Frank, at 4pm (PST) / 7pm (EST).
Jay is the author of FutureHit.DNA, which is a MUST READ for anybody hoping to write and record music that will get cuts, become hits, and rise above the competition.
Jay is currently the Vice President of Music Strategy for the CMT Network. Prior to that, he was VP of Music Programming and Label Relations at Yahoo! Music, and the Senior Music Director at The Box Music Network. Jay has spoken at the TAXI Road Rally, MIDEM, South By Southwest, Canadian Music Week, ASCAP Expo, MusExpo, Digital Music Forum, CMJ, SF Music Tech Summit, and Mobile Entertainment Summit, among others.
I cannot stress how important it is for you to watch Monday's show! Jay's book isn't an instructional, how-to book on songwriting. Instead, it's a book that approaches song creation with a strategy in mind, and he gives you very specific tactics that will make your songs stand out, get cut more often, and rise to the top when they are played.
If you think this is a non-creative, formulaic approach to songwriting, think again! Jay's suggestions will take your creativity and elevate it. You REALLY don't want to miss this episode of TAXI TV!
Please join us at 4pm (PST) / 7pm (EST), Today!

See you later,
Michael

I have read Jay's book once last year, as I took the plunge after I saw ML talked about he was reading it.
At the time I didn't get out of it, what I saw in this show, which was awesome to watch. I think I have a "trained incompetence", in terms of stuff that's heavily based on statistics. I simply distrust it, as numbers are hiding the real stuff. Still, they speak their own language in the form of results, so I need to wise up, I guess.
Going to re-read Jay's book after this show. Thanks for sticking to it!

way to go suestraw I thought that this episode with Jay Frank was one of the best ever TAXI TV shows. I learned a few tips that could immediately be used on several recent songs of mine. It was also nice to hear that repetition ( especially of the chorus) is a good thing. I was worried that repeating it 8 times in a recent song was too many. Based on another tip about false endings i did, however, reduce this to 7.1 times. This is a link to that song called "Get It Right This Time"" with its new and hopefully improved ending. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=1140072&songID=10216181I've downloaded the free copy of the first chapter and will be purchasing the rest of the book later today. I hope it would be considered still a possible hit (since I've managed 2 of the 15 traits that a hit should have. I wonder if getting a real singer to perform it is one of the 15 needed hit song traits? And thanks Michael & crew at TAXI for these weekly shows. ciao, Dan

Have I mentioned how much I love the Taxi TV UStreams??? Again another fantastic show - I wasn't able to be there Monday, but because they are all archived, I can watch them at my own convenience, even if that is at 1am on a Wednesday night/Thursday morn... Great show with Jay Frank- great info, as always!! I learn a ton every time I tune in. I really loved the info on Pandora and Sound Exchange - we just found out that our latest CD got accepted by Pandora, (Woo-Hoo!!! ) and we JUST signed up for Sound Exchange, so this was especially informative!! I will definitely be buying the book. MIchael, this is just a fantastic service - and can't wait for next weeks Mixing Part 3! Thanx! And, as always, a huge thank you to to Craig too!! Cher

Hey, Here's the thing... I am a big fan of the TAXI TV shows but usually I get a friendly reminder e-mail from Craig or somebody, but lately I have gotten nada- no new Taxi Listings, no TV show plugs, etc... so I naively assume that they are taking a break or something because I don't get the e-mail . It is good to know that it is archived, but I must say the live-ness is really cool. Anybody else have this issue? Probably I should call them and not rely on this blog to get back to the powers that be.... Cheers!
