TWO-CHORD SONGS!

Post by ernstinen » Tue Feb 15, 2011 12:23 am

Hey All! --- We've all heard about 3-chord songs, and the occasional 1-chord song (Sly's "Dance To The Music"), but I thought it would be interesting to go back in the pop/rock era and find a few TWO CHORD SONGS! Might to be able to learn something ---

One song came to me today: "Baby Come Back" by The Equals. It just popped into my mind:

This record really works for me. Perfect pounding beat, great contrapuntal guitar line, cool vocals, it's got it all. I have no idea what era it's from. Sounds mid-60s.

ANYWAY, how many great records have only 2 chords? I can't think of many more. HELP  :D

Ern 8-) :)

"Road to nowhere" Talking Heads
"Memphis, Tennesee" Chuck Berry
"Like a Virgin" Madonna
"Oye Como Va" Santana
"Baby I need your lovin'" The Four Tops
"Paperback Writer" The Beatles
"Don't let the sun catch you crying" Gerry & the pacemakers
"The Rocker" Thin Lizzy
"His Latest Flame" Elvis
"Another Brick in The Wall" Pink Floyd

Well, maybe not all exactly two chord songs, but the vibe of them are, I think.

"Don't let the sun catch you crying" has more than two; there's a bridge, remember? We all know that crying is not a bad thing....showing my age, sigh. "Another Brick..." has three in the hook, Magne; what are you smoking, and did you bring enough to share? LOL ;)

 True Mojo, I wasn't going exactly for two chord songs. Only songs with two chord feel, even though some of those I listed actually are two chord songs. But if you skip a bridge here and there, you'll get in better shape from all the swimming.. :D (btw, I don't smoke, rarely drink - I have trouble enough getting understood as is..- lot's of books, sugar and coffee, though.. we all need something, and I need to be boring 8-) )

Sorry, Magne. Being a typically undereducated American, I jes naturally presumed that Denmark was somewhere in Amsterdam. ;)
