Hi Mark,

I'm brand new to Taxi and haven't had a chance to post anything yet. I'm new to lyrics writing but have completed dozens of pieces that could contribute to finished songs. I've posted one below. I hope its of interest to you.
I write lyrics only and would love the chance to partner with someone and add words to their music

I'll be back with more once I figure out how things work on Taxi.

I can be reached @ jakyla@northrock.bm

** can some one suggest the best forum and the best format to post a body of lyrics for other members to look at, critique collaborate on etc

            She Says, He Says
                      (One)
She says she wants to set me free,
She can't cope, and why can't I see,
No more obligations and responsibilities.
Her life is so tainted, messed up and torn,
She's sad I'll miss her but soon she'll be gone,
cause love is no reason for her to go on.

                     (CHORUS)
He says like Columbus, I'm all lost at sea,
without you baby, it'll go on indefinitely
I'll fill this divide, and I'll get by your side
There'll be no obligation, there'll be no responsibility,
Without you my wandering winds will blow psychotically,
cause without you baby, life is a lonely mystery.

                           (Two)
She says footsteps always dissolve in the rain
soon we won't remember each others name,
She's my tropical depression, dreaming like a hurricane.
Suffocated, abandoned and kicked across the floor,
She swears incandescently through God's open door,
now she knows he's not home much anymore.

                            (Three)
She says you reached and teached me to unspell pain,
but now she can't think inside this stinging rain.
We've loved through sum bitter till it became all sweet,
please ground why can't you just reach her feet.
She says I'm the only star in her corroding sky,
She left me her halo and no reason why

DANCE WITH ME (Song) By Rick Butler

The way we danced
That very first day
Never fades away
An eternal dance in the best way
Heart to heart

So get on up
Let it be again
That way we danced
Heart to heart
Dance with me !

Bring those Sexy Legs
Flying solo hasn’t set you free
Half a cool couple
Looks a whole lot better
Than your same old solo trouble

Strut your stuff, Sexy Legs
Get on up and dance with me!
Bring those long slim twins
To leave them sitting
That’s a crying sin !

I’ll bring back your smile
Do the same for me!
It’s party time and the perfect place
To hit the floor
And show some grace
Dance, dance, dance with me!

Attention !!
Your one -man National Guard !
Suited up just for you
Your soldier of love
Knows just what to do
So shake it up
Dance with me!
Dance with me!

My personal guarantee!
Hit the floor, you’ll LOVE it
We’ll start with a hip hop dance
Move on to real romance
After that, we’ll just see
Dance, dance, dance with me!

Hi jakyla

I hope it's OK that I offer some feedback on your lyrics. :) Some things that experienced songwriters look for in lyrics to work with are: (1) How singable are the words? You use a lot of multi-syllable words and tough to sing phrases ("will blow psychotically" is just one of a few examples). In most popular genres, except rap, these most likely won't work. If your target is rap, then it could be different. (2) The chorus needed to be focused on a central theme, generally a hook line that often is the title. This chorus starts with "He says" and ends with "lonely mystery". Nothing to "hang your hat" on. What do you want the listener to have stuck in their head after they hear the song?

You can experiment with singing your lyrics to ANY known melodies and see how it flows. Consider reading some books on lyric writing. There are some excellent ones out there.

In general, lyrics written in the 3rd person ("he" and "she") are used much less often in popular music. People prefer to hear a singer singing about themselves and a love interest as "I" and "You" so they can identify with what they are hearing.

There is a section on this forum called "Lyric Lovers" to post specifically for lyric feedback.

Hello Mark

Stumbled across your request for lyricists. My only success to date was a collaboration with Glenn Shorrock, ex lead singer of The Little River Band. I am a prolific writer in any style, any subject and can write with or without music. Let me know your email address and I'll send some sample lyrics.

Hi Mark
Here are a couple of samples, something a little different, not generic but have appeal.

See what you think.

patmac

I CAN SEE HER SMILING
I can see her smiling
As she comes over the horizon
She’s the epitome of love
The mother of my child
I was immature and somewhat blind
You tamed the man that once ran wild

If you are good enough to be my wife
And love me enough to have my child
Then I’m man enough to change my life

You’ve a voice and you let it be heard
You’re a woman of the world

I see the future in her eyes
Love can’t be disguised
You’re the mother of my child
As the dark descends upon the day
Loving words won’t go astray
I was immature and somewhat blind
You tamed the man that once ran wild

If you are good enough to be my wife
And love me enough to have my child
Then I’m man enough to change my life

You’ve a voice and you let it be heard
You’re a woman of the world

BURNIN COLD
One minute you’re burnin
Next minute you’re cold
I don’t know what’s goin on
Or which way to go
You clipped my wings
And captured my soul
You’re burnin cold

Burnin cold
Too hot to handle
Too cool to hold
You’re burnin cold
I’m a slave to you
I’ve been bought and sold
Burnin cold

Now you’re the fire
On a hot bed of coals
Next thing you’re tired
And I’m out in the cold
You clipped my wings
And captured my soul
You’re burnin cold

Burnin cold
Too hot to handle
Too cool to hold
You’re burnin cold
I’m a slave to you
I’ve been bought and sold
Burnin cold

Hey, I'm Megan. I'm a lyricist from Basking Ridge, NJ. I don't know if you're still looking for someone or not but I take my work very seriously like you and am very hardworking and dedicated. I could go on and on about myself but I'd figure I'd let some of my lyrics do the talking for me. Check them out and let me know what you think. Thanks!

Yesterday Will Never Come Again

Intro:
Get on up out of your bed
Close the door to yesterday
Open your window, take a whiff
That's the smell of a brand new day

Verse 1:
If you don't come out and face today
You'll never see what good can unfold
Leave the pain with yesterday
Because a brighter day is what today holds

Chorus:
So much has changed from now and then
Yesterday will never come again
You're stronger and wiser now
You'll be okay
You're a better you than yesterday
Life gets better in its own way
When you kiss goodbye to yesterday
And focus on making the most of today
By throwing the mistakes of yesterday away
It gets easier
I'll tell you when
When you realize
Yesterday will never come again

Verse 2:
Don't look back
The world is spinning
It's a new beginning
And you're already winning
Because you've made it through
Through yesterday
And yesterday will never come again

Chorus:
So much has changed from now and then
Yesterday will never come again
You're stronger and wiser now
You'll be okay
You're a better you than yesterday
Life gets better in its own way
When you kiss goodbye to yesterday
And focus on making the most of today
By throwing the mistakes of yesterday away
It gets easier
I'll tell you when
When you realize
Yesterday will never come again

Bridge:
Yesterday ay ay ayyyayay
Yesterday ay ay ayyyayay

Rap:
It's over and done with
You'll never get it back
There are new opportunities
So let the past be the past
Stop dwelling on your mistakes
And be thankful for the lesson
Life is a present
And not everybody gets one
You have to live in the now
And hope for the best
Just focus on your happiness
And forget about the rest
And if the day's like the last
You'll be okay
Because even today too shall pass anyway
Tomorrows not guaranteed
So make the most of today
And forget about the problems
Of yesterday!

Conclusion:
Yesterday ay ay ayyyayay
Yesterday ay ay ayyyayay
Yesterday will never come again
Oh yesterday will never come again

Oppressor

Intro:
Looking in my eyes there’s a lot to find
Debris from the pain left right behind
Can’t even fake a smile this time
Life is hilly but I keep falling on the climb

Verse 1:
Tears pouring out like a waterfall
Guess I can admit I’ve finally hit a wall
But not just any wall stands in my way
You’re my oppressor and I am your prey

Chorus:
You're my oppressor
Professor of my flaws
Suppressor of my happiness
Aggressor without cause
Oppressor!
Stressing me, depressing me
To the point where I can't breath
Forcing me onto my knees
Cuts run up and down my sleeves
Oppressor!
Watching myself bleed
Just to know I'm still alive
To God I plead
As I struggle to survive
Oppressor!

Verse 2:
Can’t fake an ego to disguise my insecurities
Stuck in a state of pain obscurity
Ghastly thoughts storming through my mind
Knowing my imperfections are how I’m defined

Chorus:
You're my oppressor
Professor of my flaws
Suppressor of my happiness
Aggressor without cause
Oppressor!
Stressing me, depressing me
To the point where I can't breath
Forcing me onto my knees
Cuts run up and down my sleeves
Oppressor!
Watching myself bleed
Just to know I'm still alive
To God I plead
As I struggle to survive
Oppressor!

Bridge:
You've made me hate who I’ve become
My body’s weak, my heart is numb
Embarrassed of what there is to see
Ashamed of just being me
Worthless, hopeless, loveless, wordless
I can’t keep living this way
What doesn’t kill me only makes me stronger
Or so that’s what they say

Because I’m done with this war
I’m done being the mat underneath your door
I'm putting my broken pieces back together on a shelf
Because now I’m finally learning how to love myself

Chorus:
You're my oppressor
Professor of my flaws
Suppressor of my happiness
Aggressor without cause
Oppressor!
Stressing me, depressing me
To the point where I can't breath
Forcing me onto my knees
Cuts run up and down my sleeves
Oppressor!
Watching myself bleed
Just to know I'm still alive
To God I plead
As I struggle to survive
Oppressor!

Conclusion:
Talk is cheap
But thoughts cut deeper
As you come nearer
Face to face everything becomes clearer
I’m finally putting an end to my oppressor standing in the mirror

Like These Roses

Intro:
It's been a few hours
I've been staring at these flowers
You once left by my front door
Call me crazy
But I'm a little hazy
Was there a reason you said you didn't want me no more?

Verse 1:
I pick the petals from the pot
Asking does he love me or does he not?
Our love was never perfect
But oh was it worth it

Chorus:
I've watched these flowers bloom
As our love once did too
Now I'm watching them perish
Like our love
The love you once cherished.
Our love was like these roses
Beautiful at first
But then the beauty started to disperse
Our love was like these roses

Verse 2:
Our love has seen color
Beauty like no other
Our love has seen darkness
Two hearts but loveless
But how can we grow without a little rain
How can we appreciate the good if the bad doesn't remain

Chorus:
I've watched these flowers bloom
As our love once did too
Now I'm watching them perish
Like our love
The love you once cherished.
Our love was like these roses
Beautiful at first
But then the beauty started to disperse
Our love was like these roses

Bridge:
Yes we had our problems
We need to find a better way to work things out
But flowers can't sprout
When there's a drought

Chorus:
I've watched these flowers bloom
As our love once did too
Now I'm watching them perish
Like our love
The love you once cherished.
Our love was like these roses
Beautiful at first
But then the beauty started to disperse
Our love was like these roses

Chorus:
I've watched these flowers bloom
As our love once did too
Now I'm watching them perish
Like our love
The love you once cherished.
Our love was like these roses
Beautiful at first
But then the beauty started to disperse
Our love was like these roses

Catfish

INTRO:
When we met it felt like my heart went to heaven
You made life feel like the simple times when I was seven
But now it's like I can't even recognize you
You're not the man that I once knew

VERSE 1:
It's like you don't even care now about me nor yourself
I gave you my heart but you left it on a shelf
I may not be perfect but at least I'm not plastic
Baby, your mask has fallen, I feel like I've been catfished

CHORUS:
Our love was magic
Oh so lavish
But now it's average
And I'm feeling catfished
The deception is massive
I won't play along
Like nothing's wrong
I'm no actress
Baby you're a catfish

VERSE 2:
I'm starting to see your true colors break through
You're a different person and you haven't a clue
You used to hold my hand and tell me your fears
But now you're someone I've never met before my dear

CHORUS:
Our love was magic
Oh so lavish
But now it's average
And I'm feeling catfished
The deception is massive
I won't play along
Like nothing's wrong
I'm no actress
Baby you're a catfish

BRIDGE:
I guess your chivalry has died
I guess your truths turned to lies
I guess the love you once had for me has drifted away
And been replaced
By a love so fake
Leaving my heart to decay

CHORUS:
Our love was magic
Oh so lavish
But now it's average
And I'm feeling catfished
The deception is massive
I won't play along
Like nothing's wrong
I'm no actress
Baby you're a catfish

CHORUS:
Our love was magic
Oh so lavish
But now it's average
And I'm feeling catfished
The deception is massive
I won't play along
Like nothing's wrong
I'm no actress
Baby you're a catfish

CONCLUSION:
So many fish in the sea
Thought I found a great catch
But I was mislead
Left with a mandarin fish
And ended up with a catfish Instead

Hi Mark....seen your shout......I just wrote this as an example......see what you think"

I'm Just Hooked On Brooklyn
Written by Andrew Brougham-Holland ©
24th November 2015

When a New York sky
Caught an English eye
I was hooked
Can’t get enough
Of the diamond rough
In the heart of Brooklyn
I'm just hooked on Brooklyn

Old English shire
Frames Oxford spires
Casks of ale aplenty
When in Rome
It’s my home
I’ve set my sights on Brooklyn
I'm just hooked on Brooklyn

And when old Blighty's calling
I'm still falling, for the love of Old New York
In the city heat, the rocking beat, beats louder here in Brooklyn
The world I've seen
I’ve never been
Quite like anywhere like Brooklyn
I’m just hooked on Brooklyn

My English walk
Starchy talk
I try to be the gent
New York boasts
Its streets play host
To the famous Brooklyn accent
I'm just hooked on Brooklyn

And When a New York sky caught an English eye
I set my sights on Brooklyn
Those New York nights, dazzling city lights
I'm just hooked on Brooklyn
I'm just hooked on Brooklyn

And when old Blighty's calling
I'm still falling for the love of Old New York
In the city heat, the rocking beat, beats louder here in Brooklyn
The world I've seen
I’ve never been
Quite like anywhere like Brooklyn
I’m just hooked on Brooklyn

I’m just hooked on Brooklyn
