MTV pitch-SO close...but no cigar!
Hey friends,
about a week ago I got contacted by one of my publishers to pitch for the main title
of a brand new MTV show. It was very short notice and I cranked no less than 3 cues
ahead of the deadline. The publisher thanked me and a day later he emailed me saying
that one of the cues was shortlisted in the top 5. Two days later I got another email from
him telling me that it was down to my cue and another guy's! He also asked for an alt mix
in .wav format-as requested by the show's executive producer. It was THAT close! Once again
I obliged in no time. 12 hours later I got the final email...they passed on my cue-the other
guy got the gig.
For about a second I felt a lump in my throat but as always I said to myself: 'oh well...till next time!'.
You know what? I think that what really matters is being IN the game and trying your best. I'm in the
game pitching and my music is heard by the right people in the right places. At the end of the day
only one cue will be chosen! Mine was number two! number one was close but I didn't write that
one!
Thanks to TAXI we are able to get our music out there. This is the biggest success:
getting our music out there!
regards to all

Yup looks like you got the ciggerette instead.
At least you were scoring high by being 2nd on the cue. I think that speaks volumes about you, your talent and capabilites as well as your ability to take it on the chin and enjoy the ride.

I really hate using this as a comparison, but didn't Justin Bieber ccome in second in some contest before his mom posted him up on the web? Your future looks bright! Ott

What an exciting ride! Sounds like you're making your dreams come true, even if your cue wasn't picked up this time. Good work!

Adonis....
Thank you for sharing your story. Imo, you experienced a victory. Lemme explain my view. At every Grammy Awards ceremony, there is the Grammy Winner, but also the Grammy Nominees. The words "Grammy-Nominee" or "Grammy-Nominated" are oftentimes used on an artists resume. Imo, your song received a "grammy nomination", because it was THAT close. Furthermore, perhaps your song and your name will be remembered by those who were involved in the selection process. This may pay off at a later date during a different opportunity.

Yep, themes come around pretty regular; it seems likely yours has some fans who may remember it, next time the subject comes up. Maybe if the show is successful, they'll need one for the spinoff. As CK said, you never know.

Remember - There is no failure, only feedback. For the most part, the feedback you received was AWESOME! And the likelihood that you are now on the radar of these folks in a way you weren't before this process bodes well for the future IMO.
