Post Am I being super dumb here or just average dumb?
Listing below references group with female lead singer (I think it safe to assume from wording that it is the group ref and not a 'a la') obviously (to me anyway) I'm a male vocalist. That said I think I have material that might suit.

Should I assume that they would want gender specific recordings of songs or would octave down male vox be OK? Alternatively would the competition from song writers (either female or access to female vocalist) just be too great, that it would be pointless to put up my vox version against them, no matter how spot on style?

Thank you
Burt

NEW LISTING -- CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY SONGS a la EDEN'S EDGE needed by an A&R Exec at a Major Nashville Label for an established Country Trio. Songs that combine a modern Country sound with Bluegrass sensibilities (lots of Mandolin, Dobro and Banjo) will hit the mark! Vocally, your music should appeal to this lead singer's organic, radio-friendly vocals. Lyrically, this band likes to inspire others through their music, so focus on themes of CHANGE and CONNECTION. Most of all, they need HITS! If you're not familiar with this band, please listen to the music of Eden's Edge on iTunes or YouTube before submitting! Vocal and instrumental demo presentation must be top-notch! Submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Friday, January 13, 2012.

We have been told we'd have a better shot if we had a male vocalist recording of some of our songs for artist pitches. The person said female artists would usually accept male vocals on a song they were considering. Male artists would be more likely to pass if hearing a female vocalist on the demo. I have a comment on that but probably can't say it on the board.
Hopefully others have had a different experience.

Hi Burt, if you meet a female with an octave down male vocals sound, I would deffo ask to check some credentials before you marry her : ) (sorry)

your q - not sure myself from the listings, though listings wanting 'female vox ONLY' generally explicitly say so .. ?

Best is if you post up the links to the tunes your thinking and I will give it a shot to see if they fit or not ? (no expert though) so others I hope would chime in too

Cheers : )

Rob

Based on the Ustream podcasts as well as song critiques I've received,
the rule is don't even think about pitching the song if the singer is
of the opposite gender. Despite how creative everyone claims to be
in the industry, they can't seem to imagine themselves singing across
the M/F divide. This seems even more pronounced in country music.

Thx everyone for feedback

I think based on advice I'll stay my side of the gender fence on this one. But any ladies on the country side of things pls stay listening for a shout out for some 'vocals needed' in the future.

Rob working and living in Asia I have met 'females with an octave down male vocals sound', but so far have resisted seeking credentials, despite being offered several resumes! But thanks for the tip (as the vicar said).

Cheers
Burt
