Orchestra Rock - Returned by #319
You can hear my track on my taxi page: "Forged in Flame" http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.php?artist=toddkinsleyIt was returned for "recording". Hmmmm?? Here's the listing: Top-Notch Music Placement/Licensing Company needs INSTRUMENTAL HYBRIDS OF ROCK AND ORCHESTRAL music for a Hollywood Feature Film Trailer. Quoting the listing company: "We need INSTRUMENTALS that must be EPIC and ANTHEMIC with a MASSIVE sound," a la: E.S Posthumus - Unstoppable - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvV-SE3dDZ0 <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvV-SE3dDZ0> --- PARTICULARLY from 2:06-2:42! As always, do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artist or track in any way, shape or form! Instrumentals ONLY, please. Quoting the company again, "We need to crank up the action and tension, building to a huge climax. Do you feel your heart rate quickening as you listen to this? A slow beginning is okay as long as it builds into something enormous. Instruments MUST sound natural and authentic. Your TRACK should have the force and magnitude of an orchestral piece with that extra added Rock element that takes it to the next level and keeps it CONTEMPORARY." Submissions should be at LEAST 2 MINUTES in length

Mine was returned for the same reason. I have a feeling that 319 was being particularly picky with our orchestral samples or something. Honestly, I hear nothing wrong with your recording.

Todd,
I honestly can't think of a good reason why your track was returned.
-----------
Dave,
Personally, I think yours was spot on but if I had to guess I'd say the choir was too prominent for this pitch. Maybe if you'd mixed it right back. The Posthumous track had no vocal textures so I really minimised my use of voice for this one. That's just a guess though, and if that was my piece I certainly wouldn't change it now. It's perfectly pitchable as is.

Nice tips, Rob. Thanks for that. I think you're right. I had a feeling the choir was going to be hit or miss with this one.

"MASSIVE sound, particularly from 2:06-2:42, crank up, huge climax, heart rate quickening, builds into something enormous, force and magnitude, takes it to the next level", and with the reason being "recording", and listening to the recording, I think all the elements were there with the exception of some serious buss limiting.

I think if you A/B your track with the referenced track on some monitor speakers, I think you'll find your recording mix is quite noticeably thinner and a much softer master, making it far from the "Massive" necessary. Stylistically and musically, I think you were right on target. Cool piece.
