"Nice sax" when I was playing flute-- very worrisome . . .
On my submission Y120419LB, screener #347 wrote that, " You have a nice sound on the sax but I find the song lacks that strong Latin feel requested." There was no saxophone anywhere near this cut-- I was playing flute, instead.
I'd love for others to check out Deevee and give me their frank opinion as to whether this tune lacks a strong Latin feel. I think the track contains nothing but Latin feel. It's written in the style of an Afro-Cuban son.
Big Cheers,
Niall

Not familiar enough with the genre to comment but every once in a while, a screener will write something seemingly bizarre or nonsensical (like here, referring to an instrument that wasn't there). Could be a simple "typo", was thinking flute but typed "sax" since he/she had written an afternoon's worth of critiques for songs with sax in them.niallyboy wrote:On my submission Y120419LB, screener #347 wrote that, " You have a nice sound on the sax but I find the song lacks that strong Latin feel requested." Anyway, regardless of the reason, you can and should contact Taxi, explain the situation (nicely ) and ask for a re-screening. They're always glad to re-screen when things like this come up.
BTW, I loved the banjo solo in there

Yeah, Dig--
I'm hoping you're correct, Dave. Thanks for the suggestion that I contact Taxi for a clarification. That I'll do.

Hey Niall :
I was going to listen to the track, but, it's gone from your taxi page.
But, I listened to a 10 sec. or so preview of Devee on CDBaby.
My honest opinion, for what it's worth, is that the preview portion sounded lounge jazz to me..yes, with congas, but, not latin jazz.....
but, oye, I'm with ya' on the screener not being able to identify flute vs. sax....did you ever get a response from Taxi on that ?

Hi Niall,
For what it's worth, my last submission,Y120314SS (the Time is On My Side one, and bear in mind this was a YES/NO listing), screener #347 screened my submission. Under Reasons not Forwarded: Instrumental Performance was checked. However, in the comment area they wrote "I like the harmonica, I feel like the vocals are more intense and complex than the simple sincere feel requested."
I just figured screener #347 intended to check the Vocal Performance box.

Cheers, Crimson--
We're all human, and I have no axe to grind. I'm resigned to think it was an oversight. thanks for your feedback.
Peace,
Niall

Here's what 347 wrote about my tune "Pico De Gallo" for the same listing:
Eb
Now maybe I get a little jazzy (on flugelhorn, not trumpet) , but the piano montuno is 100% authentic.Eric, I really like the sound you have on the trumpet but while I find the beat very Latin but I find that the trumpet and piano at times take the song a bit out out of the Latin genre.

Dave, you always crack me up!
Seriously, when we get oddball screener comments, we probably should contact Taxi, even if just to help them monitor their own screeners and process. They do look at this stuff, train & re-train, etc.
And next time, put a fresh reed in that banjo before blowing out that solo!
