Another Jeff Beck tune

Post by playagibson » Sun Apr 29, 2012 3:26 pm

Hey guys,

Made this up this weekend.
It's styled after the raw Beck instrumentals.
The tunes called Stratoblastica. ( on my taxi page )

Whaddeathink ?

Rich.

Rich,
I really like it! I could definitely see this one getting some forwards:) There was only one little part that was a little jarring to my ears at 1:54. The guitar seemed a little much, but that is definitely just my opinion. I think you're playing is great though and it sounds like Beck Raw for sure.

Best,
Jenna

Thanks Tom !
I appreciate the comments Jenna !
I wanted to go for that reckless abandon that Beck is known for, so I favoured that over the pretty notes.
It is extreme and I figure some screeners will love it and some won't.
I plan on doing another when I have time and I promise to keep it a little prettier

Great playing, nice tone. But as always, I don't know Beck so can't comment on the fit. The piece works well though, so good luck.

Yeah Rich, very nice man! Def hear all the nods to Beck in this one, seems like it's right in your wheelhouse as well. Well done, good luck!

Very cool track Rich. Nice production, nice "gritty" quality to it.

Unfortunately I don't listen to Beck at all so I can't really comment on how close it is stylistically or not. Either way I can totally see this track being used on TV.

nice work!

Damn Rich... this is awesome! Guitar tone sounds great and I love the delay! How did you record this gear wise?
When I think of Beck these days I can't help but think of his bad ass (chick) bass player Tal Wilkenfield!
As long as TAXI doesn't have her on their mind while screening I think you'll have a good shot ;)

Thanks for the nice words,

I used guitar rig Marshall 800 with screamer distortion ( set low ) light verb and the Leslie
Simulation . I then added a psp vintage warmer to a bus ( vintage gtr setting ) and I added the delay to another bus (panned hard)
The key is in the panning. If you listen to Van Halen I you can hear the guitar on the left and all the effects panned right. It's the same technique.
The guitar is actually not that distorted which is very important to getting that big sound.
Also having a Strat with a vintage PAF pickup doesn't hurt ;)
