OK.... the yellow taxi that TAXI has for their taxi "logo" (like at the top of this page) .....

what is the precise YEAR and MODEL of that taxi? ..... just wondering ???

Hi Suzeq,

It's a 1969 Checker Marathon. The cab in the logo is an actual retired NY city cab that I rented from a Hollywood movie car place in 1992. We shot it from every angle. Before that, the cab in the original logo was a cab that I flagged down on 72nd and Columbus in NYC about a month before we opened the doors to TAXI. It was one of two Checkers left in NYC at the time, and the proud owner/driver gave me a beauty shot he took with his camera. I tried to track him down to give him some $ for using it in the logo, but could never get a hold of him. I felt bad using an unauthorized shot, so I rented the one that's in the logo now.

We DO actually own a '68 Checker Marathon that belonged to a little old lady in Pasadena, for REAL! It was baby blue and had a 475,000 miles on it. The body was in such good shape that we bought it and painted it TAXI yellow and put the checkers on it. We roll it out for the Rally every year. It still runs pretty well, and you can get rubber from a stand still. Chicks dig it! It's a real babe magnet on the 101 freeway!
