Any takers? I.e. for one specific, everybody knows that Page used to record the drums in the huge reverbrant spaces, i.e. castles with stone walls. All well and good but how to emulate this in Addictive drums outside of throwing a huge reverb on an aux send......

big drums could = huge space and distant mics
big drums could = room mics with reverb and less close mics.
big drums could = some closer mics + room mics smashed with a fast attack fast release compressor (especially an 1176 ir similar with "all buttons in" mode)

Most of the drum plugins have a room mic channel (or several). Try just soloing the room mics and see what it sounds like. then maybe add some close mic kick and snare in if it sounds too indistinct.

its also fun to put a Transient designer plugin on the room channels, and actually decrease the attack. So you get the attack on the drums from the closer mics, and the sustain and woosh from the room.

these are some things you could try. keep in mind too that the classic castle drum sound on "when the levee breaks" is pretty slow tempo, and the drums are mostly less complicated. If you had that much verb on a busy fast drum part, it might either get indistinct or just totally flooded out. so its context dependent.

AD has a number of classic rock presets, especially in the Retro AD Pak (which is on sale at half off right now thru tomorrow I think).
Starting with one of the 70s classic rock presets should get you in the ballpark, then you can tweak from there.
I've never done Zeppelin but I've had great results recreating other vintage drum sounds/tracks such as Doors, Jefferson Airplane etc with AD...especially the Retro AD Pak...
Of course you need to make sure your beats are authentic to the style as well...

Yes, I have the AdPak, and never noticed before but there are a number of "Led" kits....cool. It was recommended that in sddition ot what I do I may want to learn some slide. Nkw I can't get Jimmy Page's slide stuff out of my head.

Three bands with very different sounds.
Zep is all about the drums and bass, big full and dominant. The guitars are eq'd and compressed to fit.
Page used a lot of old supro amps which are rather low fi but darn cool.
AC/DC are all about clean Marshalls panned hard left and right and big drums with rolling bass lines.
Aerosmith are your classic seventies production, with Marshall and Ampeg tones.
The one thing they all have in common is they groove.
Nothing robotic about these guys and for Zep and Aerosmith, you better work on your bass chops.
I wish I had time to work on this listing.
I think I will and wait for another opportunity to come up.
Good luck to all !

Pagey famously used Gibsons, live; notably his '59 Sunburst Les Paul and 6/12 SG doubleneck. What most folks don't know is that he favored a Telecaster for the more layered parts on the records. AC/DC recently went back to basics, hauling out and sprucing up some of the very same amps used on Back In Black; there's an article about this somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it up. A maybe deeper problem is that these classic tracks often weren't recorded to a click.

Your right Mojo,
Pagey used a Tele straight into a Supro amp for the Stairway solo.

AC/DC are all about the 100w plexi's. Angus did use 50w plexi's for some soloing.
They basically used the same gear in the studio as they do live.
Although now they can afford to keep the jems at home and take out the leftovers SG's, Gretch's and plexi's for the road.
Aerosmith used just about every vintage tube amp and geetar out there.
Whatever worked for the song.

if I recall from Rich's bio he "played" Angus for quite some time in a touring AC/DC tribute band. Just in case you thought I wasn't paying attention :).....From my reading/research that is right on with the PAge stuff, plus a DAnelectro, I am assuming for some of the slide stuff. He for whatever reason remains secretive (or forgetful) about which amps, although Stairway, As I think someone said, was A Tele through a Supro. But mostly a Les given to him by JOe Walsh. WHat I could dig up says ampwise, again all small low wattage, but rumored to use VOxes, HiWatt, and Orange. The British (?) amps of the day. Seemed to prefer these for recording although he used MArshalls live. In AMplitube , and again song specific and I can't remember which, but the Vox 30tb with the ambassador pedal in front (a knock off of the MArshall Guv'nor pedal) nailed Jimmy to a tee. I do a lot of driving , listened to them all day today, and the sounds that I associate with Zeppelin personally come off the first 2 albums. And yes, JOhn Paul JOnes was an awesome bass player,. often busy but always groovin' and soulful. And fr the record, ACDC apparently never signed off to have their stuff sold as .mp3s because I can't seem to find them anywhere. I was a huge fan off all three of those bands at one time. Still am. And luckily saw them all live (well Plant and PAge separately and without Zep).

Don't forget to make the drums sound like this!

Good luck with that!

Seems like his drum sound was pretty consistent through the years, at least on record. That's a good representation of it.
