Writing Melodies

Post by AnthonyCeseri » Sun Jul 22, 2012 1:42 pm

Another tip I learned from Clay Drayton when I took the songwriting seminar with him was this...

The more you do something, the better you get at it. So, every time you see a phrase, or a sign -- put a melody to it. It could be traffic signs, common phrases or headlines. Doing this will sharpen your melody writing skills!

Haaa... nice! That could turn into a song about a guy who was drinking and driving, and that was his version of the backwards alphabet...

I was LOL as I imagined it as a comedy movie scene, where the cop ask him to recite the alphabet backwards, and that sign is in the back ground, and the guy can't look away from it, etc. etc. BTW, it's pronounced "zizz-icks" rhymes with physics. .. and its on the freeway just west of Vegas.

Is it the road to Zzyzx, or did they name it after the dude that crashed his saucer there?

Has anyone here noticed that "ZZyZX" rhymes with "SEXY"? That the "RD" at the end could be a contraction for "Broad"? Those of us who write lyrics notice these subtle hints. Ott

The most fun I have is stealing melodies from the sound of waves at Santa Monica Pier. Then I go to the carousal, baseball toss, etc. By then I,m swimming in melody heaven, enjoying the sounds of laughter, screams, and aching parents. The drive home puts everything in perspective and they all come together in a wash of melodic bliss.
