The new LYRIC internal acoustic guitar microphone

Could this be what we've been waiting for? An internal guitar microphone that actually sounds so good you would feel comfortable recording with it:

I would love to read your comments!

I checked out the demo and clearly the frequency/time domain response is superior to just about everything else available, (barring expensive built-in multipoint hybrid systems like the Taylor Expression system) but the dynamics are a bit lacking, to my ear. (you might never miss them in a mix of a live band, however) You can do nearly as well with a cheap Radioshack omni lavalier mic placed just inside where the neck meets the soundhole, but there's certainly greater opportunity for feedback. That was what I used, prior to the Baggs Double Barrel I use now for my onstage stage acoustic antics. I think extreme dynamics are maybe more useful in a solo setting anyway, so this system will solve the problem for a lot of ensemble players, at least.

I am thinking that this is pretty hip. especially for live performance.

this + an external microphone (for the room sound + reflections) would give a nice combo of a very direct mic signal that could mixed for a recording. definitely better than a DI.

Nice Find!!

Thanks, Mojo! That's an interesting observation. My first reaction would be that dynamics in the studio would be something to flatten out a little anyway. Limiting the peaks could be a good thing, but raising the floor and compressing might not be as universally useful.

It will be great to discover how the product catches, evolves and gets copied.

Cheers,
Allen
