Mazz and Barry introduced me to the same great library owner that Dave Walton mentioned, so I think Mazz is talking about Dave and me in the following quote from earlier in this thread. My point in quoting Mazz here is for you to see how he talks about his fellow colleagues -- who in some sense are his competitors, but he's so above that -- and this, to me, epitomizes the Rally/TAXI spirit:
mazz wrote:I was pleased to have introduced at the Rally a couple of colleagues whom I have known for a few years now to a client of mine that has gotten my music on 75 episodes (so far) of a well known daily show about Hollywood. I have known these folks for a few years now and I know their music (I've collaborated with one) and I know firsthand that they are pros. I totally trust that they will be a great asset to this client and help raise the quality of his catalog, which helps us all. ...

Look at that! That amazing support, generosity and respect cannot be bought, but a TAXI membership w/two tickets to the Rally can -- and that's a great place, along with this forum, to forge and foster such relationships.

I can't stress enough that a 2-year TAXI membership, at $150/yr, which gets you Rally tickets, should be a no-brainer. If you're a composer, you're a small business owner. Compare that $150/yr, plus submissions and travel expenses, to what any other small business spends on marketing. Seriously.

[steps down from soap box, wipes froth from mouth]

So, yes, Mazz and Barry (THANK YOU!) introduced me to a library owner with particular Access to Hollywood (nice one, Dave!) and I sent that gentleman a link to my work from the Westin lobby before leaving LA.

Sometimes you just can't beat being there in person.

So true... Even a straight one year renewal at $199 is SO inexpensive. It doesn't take many industry contacts (even one!) to easily make that worthwhile!

This is the best community in the world! Everyone is so caring and helpful.

Best,
:D Casey

Dear Taxi Forum Peeps,

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your posts! It really IS encouraging and I look forward to telling my placement success story in the near future.

I met a few awesome musicians at this year's rally and we wrote AND performed an instrumental piece at the Open Mic this year. That was fun! We are going to record it and have our little Irish jig available when someone is looking for something of that nature.

I made several great new friends...so my "industry" connections are now a little stronger than they were when I first showed up.

Thanks Taxi!

I wanted to meet a specific publisher at the Rally, and waited until after the panel was over, hung around outside the doors and after the crowd dissipated, was able to introduce myself. We chatted for a few minutes and the person took my CD and gave me their contact info.

I emailed them that night to say thank you for speaking with me and that I hoped we could work together in the future.
Within an hour they emailed back saying it was great to meet me and they will be listening to my music and to contact them at the beginning of December!

I will let you know if anything comes of it!

I am very happy to say that one of the panelists took a copy of my CD at the last listening panel.
No deals yet but was told by the panelist that the process takes time and he said he would be calling.

So yes a very big THANK YOU to Michael and his staff for making this whole rally possible. It was my first
rally and this could not have happened if a) this rally didn't exist and b) if I had not been there.

Thanks again Michael!!

UPDATE

I met with my mentor of choice and he asked me to make a couple of changes and then send him the cues.
I also took his breakout class and tried to implement all the advice and writing tips.
I did that and I am now reading over the agreement to join the ranks of these wonderful composers!! :D

So it looks like I did get a deal while at the rally...or a week later. :P
Joining this production team was a long term goal for me that I didn't think I had a chance of this year.
I'm so glad I was wrong!

Thanks again to Michael, Taxi and my fellow Taxi folks...especially the forum community!
You guys can never be shown the gratitude you deserve.

Hi Michael,

It was good to see you again after so many years! And I was one of those whose song was taken from the stage by 2 different publishers which was pretty darned exciting. Haven't heard anything back yet but my fingers are crossed.
