1/2 tape transfer - LA Recommendation?
Looking for options to have better sounding mixes of "vintage" songs I could possibly submit, but my half inch 8-track tape machine is long gone. Thinking about transferring to digital. Who does this well in LA area? Think it's Ampex 456?
I supposed I could find another DAT machine for my masters, but I think my mixing skills are so much better than the 80's !
Thanks for any input.

There should be a ton of places in LA, but you might get better bang for your buck by looking a little further up the coast. You'll want a geek/specialist and well-maintained machines, someplace busy. I'd try the back pages of TapeOp or call local mastering houses to see who they recommend.
