I want to get more aggressive in marketing my stuff but I am realizing that I need to greatly improve my recording/production skills to set myself apart. I have great songwriting ideas, but I can't convey them professionally without spending a fortune to have them done for me.Andy I can't call myself a smart business man yet. Most people might even still think I'm a wacko, self-centered and flakey musician... BUT - I can absolutely guarantee you I am not doing the same things over and over and expecting different results. So my (our) plan is now to make tons of money first. And then I'm gonna spend a shitload of it hiring hundreds of wonderful singers, musicians, engineers, studios and co-producers. I picture myself enjoying spending a fortune on music. I can hardly wait in fact. I love & consume music made by groups of people. I love music made in great big-ass studios with a lot of people working on a shared vision. For me, it's all about the experience of co-creating music, and letting it wash all over me. And Andy, if learning recording/production are your goals, you couldn't have come to a better environment than Taxi and this forum. This is a perfect place to learn so many things. I feel like my music biz knowledge begun, AFTER I joined Taxi. I love this forum.

"And in this age of "reality tv" and the such people would rather hear the singer's sucky song than if they sang's a songwriter's brilliant song."Clearly there are folks out there that are so caught up in the artist that whatever is thrown their way, they will suck up. I sure hope that does not speak for the majority of listeners. But who knows?Mark,If any of us here on the outside manage to get one past the goalie and actually attract the interest of a major, expect that major to receive a songwriting credit.Man oh man, I'd give it gladly.I totally agree with you. If an unknown songwriter is allowed to approach the “alter” of the big time record industry, they best be prepared to offer up their “lamb” to the "major."And yes, as an upstart, I too would gladly fork over a share of the credit. And as soon as the deal were inked, I’d be hoping against hope, that the go round they'd give me a second opportunity to submit a song for consideration.Of course, me don't think I will ever have to worry about splitting credits with the big boys.GB

I'm reminded of a few lines from Chuck Berry's autobiography: "Now, what the HELL Alan Freed's name is doin' on MY song? I don't recall any Alan Freed bein' in the room when I WROTE the song..."

Re: #1 Country Hits Stats
I for one have yet to give in to the idea that a great song won't be picked up by the big boy's of the biz. I will continue to write songs targeting the big boy's as they are in the biz of making hit records and I am a big fan of what usually comes out of there quest for greatness. That being said: If I keep writing and load my hard drives with original music and some day get that phone call from "The Man" or "The woman" and they ask if I have anymore potential hits, I have a library. If Not, I will still be broke but I will be broke with some songs to leave behind! I am in it for the fun, excitement, expression, emotion, communication etc...... Hell I just Love music!!!!This posts has inspired me to go write! LLL
