100th Placement

Post by cosmicdolphin » Mon Aug 23, 2021 3:12 pm

Another new placement has taken me past the 100 barrier - At current run rate this rate I should hit 1,000 placements by the time I am 107

It has taken

5 years - 6 months & 19 days

12 Libraries

453 cues

Current LIfetime Total Earnings from Sync £1,947.07

Total Spent equipment - memberships- fees - plugins - subscriptions ...More than £1947.07

Onwards and sideways.... 8-)

Fantastic achievement Mark, and congratulations! Time to ease into retirement ;) J/K.

I know you're talented and have worked hard for this, with well above average dedication and more than a little sacrifice. We've spoken about it many times, but do have you any sage advice for those (not me) still holding the dream of the much fabled '5-year plan'? Does it even have any relevance any more?
Graham (UK). Still composing a little faster than decomposing, and 100% HI.

Congrats, that's awesome.
Thankfully, while growing old is compulsory, growing up remains optional!

I'm not really sure " The 5 Year Plan " exists other than as a Taxi marketing term - As I understand it from watching many Taxi TV episodes it was first mooted by successful Taxi Member Matt Hirt along the lines of " you can't be expecting to make money from this in 3 months , you need more like a 5yr plan "...I don't think anyone ever laid out an actual plan. It was just a way of explaining how slow moving the business is and how long it can take to earn anything.

I do get the feeling that somewhere along the way it morphed into more of a " quit day your job in 5 years " type pipe dream which is obviously attractive to many but I only know of a very talented and hardworking few that have achieved this.

For the rest of us Matt Hirt's advice rings true that the business moves at such glacial pace that even after a year or two it's probably not going to make much of a dent and it's certainly been my experience.

It's only during this , my 6th year that I feel like I've achieved some kind of momentum but I've seen other people hit the ground running who make amazing music from the get go who are way ahead of me on the curve. On the flip side I hear many tracks from folks who are so far below the bar they may never make it.

So how long your "plan" is , is mostly down to you and your abilities ( or lack thereof ) - partly down to "luck" - and ultimately down to what you hope to get out of it.
