1960s Inspired

Post by timothycook » Sun Mar 29, 2020 6:49 am

Hi All,

My first attempt towards producing something in several months. Moving back to the US has been an arduous process.

Anyway, I`d appreciate your thoughts on EZ Surfing at https://bit.ly/3buQIVK

It`s in response to Listing TAXI # S200411SX:
------------------------------------------------------------------
Several 1960s-Inspired INSTRUMENTALS that would sound great in TV Commercials are needed by the Publishing division of a well-known Label.

NOTE: This request is pretty wide-ranging, so we've opted out of including references. We felt they could be more misleading or limiting, than helpful. If you need a refresher on the decade, here's a list of hits from the 1960s (use this list only to get you in the '60s zone, as this company does NOT want to hear any copies, covers, or soundalikes): Top Songs of the 1960s

Please submit Instrumentals with a 1960s-era sound and style that could work well for TV Commercials. Motown-esque Soul, Folk, Psychedelic Rock, etc., etc., are all on the table for this request, and you'd be wise to keep them emotionally upbeat and feelin' groovy!

TAXI Tip: They’re NOT interested in hearing Instrumentals that sound like backing tracks minus vocals. Your submissions should have a melody on top!

NOTE: Recent recordings that sound retro can work for this request, but if you’ve got any original vintage pieces that actually date back to the 1960s, this publisher wants to hear them as well!

Your Instrumentals should be 3 minutes or less. Short intros (or no intro at all), easy edit points and Non-faded, Buttoned/Stinger endings are all strongly recommended for this pitch. Era Appropriate Broadcast Quality is needed.
--------------------------------------------------------------

Your feedback is appreciated.

Hey BigSugar,

I went to check out the track, but the link shows there's no content. Can you update the url?

Thanks,
Brad

Thanks Brad. There always seem to be problems using the Taxi site when trying to share files.

Here`s a Sound Cloud link.

Love the guitar tone. The things that stand out to me are:
-Some of the edits where you comped the guitar seem abrupt.
-Overall it feels a bit "jammy" like there's no distinct sections.
-There's a hazy low end thing going on, maybe reverb from the toms? I'd also get away from that tom pattern, kinda goes back to the need for sectional contrast.
-Bass is taking up a lot of low end real estate as well, not really era appropriate to my ear.

I preach this all the time but I would load up a track or two in your session that you could A/B to your track in real time and really try and capture the vibe of those tracks. In this case something The Ventures.

Hope that helps, good luck!

Cool track! Definitely a very early 60s' guitar vibe. I love the guitar tone you have on the track!

A couple of quick suggestions from my ears:
1) The lows/mids are muddy; take a look as some eq down there.
2) I noticed there's noise coming in with the high drum-toms.

Enjoyed it!

Thanks for all the feedback.

I think I have addressed the issues. Here`s a new version.
