2,040 Usages on ONE SONG

Post by deankripp » Tue Jan 08, 2019 1:45 pm

Just a note of encouragement for those who sometimes feel like their songs or cues have been gathering dust on a library/publisher's shelf.

I was surprised when I opened my ASCAP royalty statement yesterday to find that one of my cues/songs had been used 2,040 times on over 40 networks for a promo campaign (in 2017/2018). Yeah, and each instance paid.

This cue had been written back in 2009 and signed with an active publisher/library. For almost 10 years it has gathered dust.... and then, suddenly, this last year it decides to shake off the dust and start dancing again ;-)

We never know exactly when or where our creations are going to find a home. All we can do is create, submit, forget and repeat. If we do this consistently over a number of years, good things will happen.... and those good things will start adding up.

Anywayz.... keep writing, keep submitting, keep getting better.... that... is the recipe.

I should also add that this "deal" came from a publisher connection made at the 2008 Taxi Road Rally. So it should be noted that attending the Taxi Road Rally is indeed a integral part of the success recipe.

Now go get back to work :-)

:-)

WOW Dean, that's amazing!!! What a fantastic story. It's a million times better than reaching into the pockets of a pair of jeans that you haven't worn in years, and finding a $20 bill. Same concept of discovering money that you had completely forgotten about. Only in this case, it's an old long-forgotten track that finally gets pulled out of the pocket, and I'm sure will line your bank account with oodles of great moolah.

How cool!!!!!!! I gotta share this story with everyone I work with musically here in the Boise area.

~~Matt
