I will be doing some workshops with teachers of the blind next year and want to understand if there are ways to learn and record songs other than by ear if one is vision impaired. Thus far, people with whom I've collaborated who are low vision use magnification devices on their computers for reading lead sheets, chord charts etc. Would appreciate any suggestions you might have for those who aren't able to use this kind of technology. Thanks!SuzSuz,I teach my blind students to read and write Braille Music Notation. There is a lot of information on this at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braille_musicThe problem is it takes a long time to get the music transcribed into Braille. I can do it but it's tricky! Sometimes prisons have their inmates put music books into Braille. Somebody trains them and they do it instead of making license plates! Looks better on their parole, too. JeffThanks, Jeff. I really appreciate the info. I'm going to check into whether my notation software has a plug in for exporting a song in Braile. Wouldn't that be cool?Again, many thanks!Suz

You're welcome Suz! The software program for Braille Music Translation is called Goodfeel by a company called Dancing Dots. Check out: http://www.dancingdots.comHere's the link to request a demo:http://www.dancingdots.com/main/demodl.htmJeff

Suz, I was invited once by a conductor to play Rhapsody in Blue. Before we started rehearsals, that honor was given away to a blind pianist because the only sheet music in Braille in Cuba at that time was that piece. He ended up playing with the Orchestra instead of me. I regreted it but at the same time didn`t. He was a wonderful pianist and a lovely, lovely person. He`s dead now. Look for him on the web, he had a few recordings, his name was Frank Emilio Flynn.
