2023 report

Post by Susanstunes » Fri Dec 29, 2023 10:51 am

Hi everyone!

Highlights of 2023:

Had longest placement-5 minutes

Signed with 3 new libraries -music which will likely be released in 2024
Now am signed with 5, 4 of which are with the "Majors"

More than tripled income from last year (still in the very early stages of development here πŸ˜ƒ)

Interesting tidbits:

My music is still being used at least 60% outside of US.

I still have a very small amount of material out there, but am proud to say the percentage of those that get used is more than 50%.

My music produced without edit points gets used for longer timing than the ones with edit points

I am getting more skilled at making my own samples, and that makes my tracks sound more "organic"

Added electric guitar to my live instruments-

Specific sounding titles still are helping me get picked for the shows, I think. πŸ€”

My stuff is showing up on a particular show fairly regularly making me think I should write more with that exact style in mind - it's a wild and wonderful Astrology report on Univision

*I am understanding more about how editors/ supervisors choose music

Am spending more time chasing down money from PRO, and/or the networks- this is more than a little disconcerting. But I am a female warrior, so even a 10 second placement will make me grab on and not let go, ha ha...

I like the European networks better because they seem to have less problems with cue sheets.
And I think they are less inclined to do blanket deals, although I could be wrong. Either way, even though it takes longer to get paid, I worry less about actually getting paid, if that makes sense.

One of my placements got used as a bit more than just background, the flute seemed to "carry the moment forward" all by itself.

I did travel more than usual this year, and was not as productive as last few years. No matter what, my production lags my peers, for sure. I keep hoping this will improve πŸ™.

This continues to be a very rewarding endeavor! It's frankly exhilarating just to do this kind of work.

Success to all and Happy New Year
Susan

Edited down your 'tidbits' that stood out - especially interesting about the WITHOUT EDIT POINTS use.
Congrats on a good year-end report.
Cheers from a fan in The Peanut Gallery.

All good news Susan, congratulations on your successes and I'm sure there's much more to come. :)

I think its the same everywhere, but we all see different examples of the good and the bad. I'm owed a lot from France  8-)

Oh, that's too bad about France, drives me a bit nuts that issue.
Have a nice new year's weekend
