2M views.. and then what ?

Post by PhilRey » Sun Apr 22, 2018 11:33 pm

Hey there,

Aside of composing for libraries I'm also creating more "personal" stuff. Recently a guy gathered a bunch of my tracks in 1 video on youtube, and this video is now reaching 2M views (and hundreds of very touching comments,) while his videos usually reach around 5k to 10k views.

I'm not a Youtube guy (or a social media guy either...) so I'm asking here, to those who have eventually some experience in promoting theirselves through the internet, social medias etc...
Would you capatalize on this if you had to promote your own music ? And eventually, how would you do that ?

Thanks ;) - Phil

Congrats Phil! I don't mean to be glib but I'm sure there is a Youtube video on that!

Sounds like you better set up your own channel. Those are serious numbers that pull in advertisers.

Hope you find some good advice on this.

Thank you Lester.

Well.. I had my own channel but.. it's so much work just to create a video, than to upload it etc... pfff :D & in the end I only had a few hundreds view on each videos. Not so rewarding (and from what I observe it's often the case for composers. Meaning they gather millions of views on other channels, but nothing on their own !). Globaly I've learned to see YT channels as radios... & Creating your own radio doesn't mean that you will instantely reach millions of people, of course... (on the contrary).

Ok well.. I guess it's the "nature of the beast" ;)

No, it isn’t a good idea. You already said you are not a YouTube guy, so just let it be. You like making music, so focus on making music. Don’t let views from YouTube cloud your focus.
