Well, the CD24 48/16 disc I made on the Masterlink definitely has .aiff files on it. The weird thing is that they don't play in the order recorded when I play them on any PC. So that's technically unprofessional.

Yup, the DVD I did was not computer based. I used a standard external DVD recorder that I'm using to transfer my wife's Pilates tapes onto DVD (plus my Three Stooges Collection --- Nyuk Nyuk!). It has no digital audio input, so I went analog audio in from the Masterlink .aiff files, which is obviously the wrong way to do it.

Right now I have a couple choices: Buy PT 8 and a new computer, or shelve the project and be on the publisher's Phase 4, or 5, or 10 list somewhere down the line, if he still wants my sorry ass! ;)

Thanks for all the advice,

Ern 8-) :)

Naw, just install a DVD drive and decent burner software, and you're good to go. Nero or the equivalent can burn a data DVD, once the AIFFs are on your hard drive. (unless iTunes or whatever can't rip the AIFFs from a CD24)

Plenty of free programs can burn a data CD or DVD from any files including .aiff including iTunes. If you have .aiff files on a DVD from your external recorder, you can copy them to your PC hard drive and load them into iTunes. Then you make an iTunes playlist of the files in desired order and there is a function to burn a DATA CD or DVD.

If the source .aiff files from the external recorder are 24 bit and you need 16 bit, you can convert them to 16 bit first, using a program like Switch, before loading into iTunes.

If I understand correctly what you are trying to do, here is a suggested sequence:

Get a DVD of 48K/24 bit .aiff files from your external recorder.
Take the DVD and copy the .aiff files into a folder on your PC.
Use Switch to convert the .aiff files from 48K/24 to 48K/16.
Open iTunes and load the files into the music library.
Create a playlist with the files in desired order. Once you create a playlist, you can drag the files in.
From the playlist, burn a DATA DVD - just make sure you pick the right options.

Again, if done correctly, if you explore the DVD afterwards you should see it as showing .aiff files.
