6 Things You Need To Know episode

Post by Susanstunes » Thu May 11, 2017 9:16 am

Hi everyone,
So, if you are a songwriter and want to get your songs on tv or tv commercials, it sounds like unless the singer (or band) is a known artist or one who is about to break out, or already has a decent following that it is quite challenging to get placed.... but Michael did say that ultimately he thinks the songs that work best and best fit the picture will most often get used...
Does that mean that IF you are not a known artist or one who is about to break out or already have a nice fan-base it could be a VERY long shot to ever hope to get your original song placed on tv?
Obviously the vocals need to be "prime-time" ready but, is it slightly discouraging or not discouraging to focus in this area?

I have no real basis for commenting because I've not submitted my work anywhere yet. I've been studying though, and what I've seen is that I think it is a lot like shopping for anything else? You buy what best fits your needs. I believe I have as much of a chance as Taylor Swift - I give the best I can give and if it's not what they wanted, that doesn't mean it wasn't good enough: It just means it wasn't what they needed. Someone else will come along who does. :) I hope I don't sound too Polyanna with stars in my eyes.

The light shines on the worthy and unworthy equally.
Accept, don't expect.

They like to have the cool factor or brand power of an established or famous act. If the choice is between an A- song from an act that has some traction vs. an A+ song from an unknown person, I think they'd go for the A+ song in the end. If it just screams, "this is perfect," it's hard to not go with it.

If, on the other hand, it's a Taylor Swift song, she'll win because she lends millions of fans and gravitas to the commercial.

There are lots of commercials with great music from non-famous people. There is real hope.

That should read as good news for those members who have paid to submit their stuff into the marketplace via Taxi,
and hope for either some recognition for their abilities and/or ROI of time, treasure, and talent. :)

And - since Taylor Swift is being mentioned - look at the mega hit she's having, having 'submitted' her song "A Better Man" to Little Big Town.
