A classic Taxi signing success story

Post by Coffeeinthesink » Sat May 23, 2020 8:32 am

At my first Rally in 2018, I happened to sit next to a producer with long hair and struck up a conversation around producing vocals (I think it was about how he handles breath sounds  ). We exchanged cards and then bumped into one another a few times over the weekend. If I remember correctly it was his first or second Rally. This producer turned out to be the great Greg Carrozza who has gone on to be featured on an episode of Taxi TV.

We touch base after the Rally and only a couple weeks later he sends me an email, "Hey this is a bit of a stretch but this listing closes Friday, would you like to try Let It Snow?" Sure thing. We get the key locked down and I send him three vocal takes within a day. We go on to create a handful more of Christmas songs and they come out beautifully, and get some forwards over time.

Flash forward to spring of 2020 and Greg receives an email from a well known publisher responding to a forward from a mid-late 2019 listing. They sign ALL the Christmas songs along with the alternate acoustic guitar-vocal takes we created along the way. It gets better! The publisher reaches out to me to sign the agreement and offers to listen to some of my original work. I send a handful of songs and they sign three of my tunes! :D

So as the adage goes - you never know who you're going to meet at the Rally or when songs will find the right person. Check out some of our holiday tunes below. Cheers!

Oh wait! I almost forgot - one of the signed original tunes was written with Johnny Rowing, who I also met at that first Rally and have remained friends with since.

Great story and report - congrats - I'm a tad envious, hoping the Christmas song collaboration project-in-progress might experience a similar 'fate'.
Hearing the results of those Road Rally encounters is always cool and encouraging.
Cheers!

Meeting you and Kylie at that rally was the highlight of that convention for me David. :)

Thanks for giving me a chance at helping with the lyrics to "Superhero . . ."

Love working with you brother.

Super cool report, and very happy for everyone involved!! That's the true spirit of this collaboration game, and why it is such an important part of the process. And great testimonial as to how good things often come out of the blue years after you had your hopes up for something. Never give up on the tracks, and never give up on the craft!
