I do have to shut it off when tracking vocals or hand percussion or acoustic guitar. Sometimes you can hear the birds on the mic, but not as usually as loud as the headphones, though.

Wow, really pro studio, Russell!
Do you consider it a home studio only, or a project studio where you record others also?

Thanks :D

The "studio" part (where a small band could set up) is 95% complete, but I'm only using it for storage. About the only thing I record is myself or one other person in the control room. I just finished recording a lady last week who needed demos of her songs for a publisher/producer. I avoid hiring myself out for recording $$. I'm after passive income in the form of royalties.

That is bad-ass. I wanted to do something like that but ended up getting a house that didn't have that sort of space. Maybe when I get my house in the country I can give that a try. Gorgeous!

I had a similar epiphany after the business dried up; people today think they can record themselves perfectly well with their mobile phones and iPads, but most of them are wrong. I still do a few projects a year, but mostly it's production/engineering in other peoples' spaces. The two biggest studios in town are currently out of commission, one from a fire the other from a flood, so I might see an uptick, soon.
