alas and mix please
Hi folks
This was written 10 years ago and just now recorded.
It's a bit of Aussie rock ala Hoodoo Gurus. Someone suggested REM as well.
Wondering if anyone has a genre for it and mix comments welcome?
The bass is distorted and that's how I want it.
Thanks
Lester

90s alt.rock a la Weezer (listen to their song “Buddy Holly”), maybe pop punk as an alternative genre a la The All American Rejects.
Mix is fine for those things, maybe a snippet bright, but thats all.

The Hoodoo Gurus? Dang I forgot about them!
I had one of their albums, listened to it all the time, wonder where it's gone?
Cool tune Les!
I would hit every "Seraphim" hard with the Background Vocals (from the very first one)
It's just a tad too weak with just the single voice. (Just my opinion)
Had to be great to get this track recorded finaly!
Cheers,
Cass

Cool track! To me it sounds something like the solo work of Graham Coxon of Blur-- one of my favorite guitarists. I'd check out his albums "Happiness in Magazines" and "Love Travels at Illegal Speeds" and take note of the production and apply some of it. Maybe a little distortion on the vocals would sound perfect.

I feel a strong seventies rock vibe on this one... Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, maybe even Bob Dylan.
I'm a bit disappointed about the vocal in the chorus though... really, just that one word? To be honest, don't even know what it means... would be better to expand this just a BIT.
The descending vocal around 2:14 sounds a bit uncertain. Consider some actual lyrics there.

Hi Kolstad. Buddy Holly's got a dirty guitar sound. Happy Days takes me back to another dimension.Post by Kolstad » Mon Jul 27, 2020 8:05 pm

I might take a tad of brightness off the mix. Thanks for the time and suggestions.
P.S> That little Valves plugin you put me onto gets a bit of use on bass, slide and a few other things. A cheapie but a goodie.

I ran off a few mixes with BV's up earlier on agree they are too low at the moment.
For some reason [performance] they just have to sit in the right spot without drawing too much attention. I'll ramp them up a notch.
What's my scene, Bittersweet etc Dave Fauulkner is bald now

Graham Coxon is a nice tip, thanks. Just listening to Baby your'e out of your mind, sweet song.
I might try a little Decapitator on the vocal.

I'll have a look at the vox at 2:14.
I'll think about something around the Seraphim line. Seraphim is plural for the highest order of angels. I actually thought it was singular. It can mean whatever you want it too.

Re: alas and mix please
Secondary vocal in the chorus is much better. Just turn up the volume of the "I can see it but I don't understand" up a LITTLE bit; it's fine when "what's the plan" starts.
