Merry Christmas!

My ears are all worn.
Wonder what you think of this mix?

Hey Mange,
Its a nice twangy bluey chris isack vibe.

And it would help to know a small blurb of the listing u r pitching to.

My opinion is , at 0.0.39 secs, u have a slide gtr comin into the middle of the mix
almost over powering the other riff because its slightly out of pitch
( now I know its allowed sometimes to be in the zone)
but thats what strikes my fresh ears.
Hope that helps
Johnny

Thanks Johnny,

Ouch, I was afraid the slide was too dominant. If I make the tone cleaner and pull it back in the mix (is it really that pitchy?), would it then work from a musical perspective? I guess the track worked with just the rhythm guitar, drums (are they too dominant?) and bass, so perhaps I should pull the slide out, and just add a piano doing some comping/embellishments?

This is for an instrumental theme album, and not a listing, allthough the end purpose is the same (pitching for tv/film). My reference track for the mix was Ry Cooder's "I think it's going to work out fine".

Morning and Merry Christmas back...

Yes very relaxing & vibey piece. Love the laid back drum feel !

I would agree with Crazyhooks.... more at :58 for me. I'm wondering if you pulled the tremolo off.... may just be too much 'warble' as it bends up to pitch as is (?) ....might work

Thanks Chris,

Maybe the pitch issue is due to the rotary effect on the slide guitar, when the tremolo on the rhythm and the rotary on the lead coincide.. not a big deal if I have to rerecord it, though. But I'll try to see if it works to edit the tone (love the flexibility of digital post-fx! :D )

Appreciate your comments, all!

Hey, Magne

IMO this is what you do best.

This has a really nice, laid-back groove to it. I have only listened once so far, and the pitchy guitar wasn't an issue for me. But I think the drums in general are a little loud. I'd rather be only just able to hear the hi hat, and I'd drop the snare a little too, let the guitars come through.

Great piece, though, and I really enjoyed it.

Thanks Nick,

I agree this is very natural for me, and require little effort. I always try to get out of my comfort zone, though. I made the mistake when mixing this, that I mixed it from drums. I was working too fast and not thinking, so I mixed it the same way I tracked it. I should really have mixed it from the guitars, so I hear you on the drums.

One day, I hope I'll get it right :D

Thanks for chiming in. It was nice of you.

Magne

This might be old news for you already.

Like to hear the drums back of slightly.

The slide is really only most noticable on the last hanging note each time.

Woops, I hear more now.

I know you guys hate melodyne, but it would take care of the few that are off:)

This would work in film for me.

Happy new year

Paul
