Amapiano returns

Post by mteezykeys » Wed Jan 31, 2024 1:32 pm

My Track - Dance. I hope the taxi link works, seems to always be a problem uploading to the forum.

Went 0/6 here. The screeners main critique was not having a log drum bass sound. I used a Massive preset that I thought sound closest to the log drum bass in the references and then added a sub bass to it to give it some low end. Not authentic enough sounding bass to the references?

Reference tracks.

Ouch - 6 returns ?

I would probably never submit 6 tracks to a listing, let alone a new genre I'd not done before. Your track sounds decent although I feel a lot less bass compared to the refs.

If it was me I'd do a bit more research to get the bass souding right and then pitch those 6 tracks to a library myself - they sound like licensable music even if you've not hit the bullseye on the genre.

I like the track apart from the pseudo log drum that I think sounds a little coarse and demands too much attention, so I suppose I'm with the screener on that. It should be easy to find even a free log drum for Kontakt though and sub that into the track. As Mark suggests, the rest of the track is fine, so if you have a bunch that are just as good then it would be well worth pitching them to a library yourself. Good luck :).
Graham (UK). Still composing a little faster than decomposing, and 100% HI.

I was feeling pretty confident about my submissions. It was really fun and relatively easy for my compose. I'm going to swap out the bass patches and submit to a few libraries I already have relationships with. Thanks guys!

I think your track is very good, but to me the kick sounds completely different from the reference. It sounds like the low notes of the keyboard or synthesizer are fighting with the Kick frequency components.
If it were me, I would significantly reduce the bass frequencies of other instruments that are interfering with Kick to make room for Kick.
In the case of commercially available samples, I think it is dangerous to use them as they are, as the low range may be removed to make them more appealing, or they may contain too much or unnecessary high frequencies. .and may contain unnecessary low frequencies
By distributing the frequency bands of each track and securing space for the kick, I think you can hear it clearly without having to increase the volume of the kick track that much

Great track bro! I actually downloaded some free log drum samples myself and made a patch with them. I got mine from here and just spread them across the keys. https://afrobeatproducers.com/blogs/fre ... ample-pack

I definitely had to add some sub freq on mine and I even layered another bass keyboard on top of it to give it some length and depth. https://youtu.be/d0aB2aiO-4A
