Another kind of success - thanks to a Taxi co-write

Post by funsongs » Fri Jun 02, 2017 1:22 pm

Hello, Taxi-Forums Peeps.
Allow me to give a proper shout out to two of my fellow Taxi Member & Forums participants;
and indulge me, please, as I write a bit of this story - to which maybe others can relate, or have similar experience or tale.

It was quite awhile back that, while listening to some music by Louise Goldberg, that I fell into a few days of inspired lyric writing - in a genre
so NOT in my wheelhouse: Crooner/Frank Sinatra/Big Band. :? :shock: I was wading into unfamiliar waters; but getting that kind of wet was fun.

Taking advice about collaborating - I posted up my lyrics to "Stop Leaving Me Breathless" in the Collaboration Corner board.
It was 11 months later (!) that I got a response from Lamar Pecorino; who offered to put music, vocals, & production to the co-write.
It got put onto my Soundcloud page, and shared on the P2P board here, to some kind comments and positive reviews.

During that same period, 4 other song lyrics were penned... but got put on the shelf, with other song production projects taking priority.

Fast-forward to earlier this year, I emailed some local jazz "masters" I've had opportunity to meet and get to know - and I simply asked for a referral for a local composer well-versed in this Crooner/Big Band style; I wanted to work face-to-face on these.

To my amazement & surprise, "the busiest collaborator in our county" replied to me, stating something like,
"I love that genre - I want to do it!" :? :shock: :shock: :) (HOLY COW! Seriously!?! JACKPOT!!)
And it was mostly due to being able to showcase to him the first song, that was done by Lamar, that sparked the interest and opened to me a door that would otherwise have been considered The IMPOSSIBLE DREAM.

SO - update: the 5-song Crooner CD project - titled "Let's Be Frank" - has been recorded and is ready for CD Baby manufacturing as I write this! :shock:
I'm still in awe for the sake of this opportunity. I can't wait for the time to share these songs, this music... and, hopefully, find appropriate placement for some or all them.

Ending my banter: thank you again - many times over - to Lamar Pecorino for taking a chance, and pointing the way.
And - I wish all the best success & continuing to make great music to Louise Goldberg - such a talent.

God bless you, my Taxi-Amigos! It wouldn't have happened without you! :D

Beautiful story Peter. Regardless of the final outcome, you've already had some joy along the way and that's a wonderful thing! I wish you every success with your new (old?) venture. Here's to jumping in the deep end now and again! :)

Giving credit where it is due:
the inspiration & first-of-5 was the work of Lamar;
and the CD track music was arranged & recorded by Peter Sprague:

Likewise - the remaining 4 songs are the music to my lyrics - completely composed, arranged, recorded by Peter Sprague;
and played by the septet of his musicians I affectionately dubbed The Peter Sprague Lounge Band - :? 8-)
featuring the voice of Crooner - Dwayne Lawson.

Many, many thanks to all of the review and comments on this thread.
Let's Be Frank has truly been a fun project! :D
