IMO

Its headed the right way.

You need more listening time to the refs and trailer music in general and concentrate on:

1) brightness / darkness and level of various sounds - mix
2) impact of various sounds - production and mix. Where are the huge drums?
3) space (reverb, delay) of sounds.
4) doubling instruments to make them sound less synthetic / and / or getting some sounds to augment what you have already.
and
5) MASTERING - this piece has to hit you in the face just like the music does in those trailers.

It might help to do a google search on trailer music from major labels / music libraries and look at the sausage shaped waveforms of their tracks in their player. There are quiet sections between the acts, but in the meat of the action things are loud and intense.

Good luck!

Oh well thanks to everyone - I was close but they didn't like the mix - jeez I need to not only compose but mix, master - such is life
Welcome to the club of wearing all the hats!!!

Bummer on the return. You will get there.

With a lot of this music its a combination of the right sounds, in the right balance, with fresh musical ideas and a good enough sounding mix / master. Nobody that does this music is a "mix engineer" or a "mastering engineer" but you learn how to do it well enough to pass the bar.

When you get to the point of having your music mixed or mastered by a library you still need to have a pretty awesome demo to get it signed anyways - that's a high bar situation where the library is investing in your track.
