Another signal chain question

Post by og » Wed Jul 26, 2006 2:13 pm

The books I have read don't say a whole lot about USB interfaces and other equipment. If I wanted to add a hardware expander/compressor to my chain, where would it go? I have mic to phantom power to MobilePre USB to computer. Between the pp and preamp? (the phantom power on the Pre itself locks up the computer when I turn it on--M-Audio tech support is less than helpful--so I just got an ART and kept going)

The compressor has to be after a preamp. A quick glance at the specs of the MobilePre doesn't seem to indicate an insert of any kind which would be the best way. If you're looking at buying something, then you could get a comp that has a pre built in.

Thanks. That's kinda what I thought. Is there a decent VST expander/compressor out there that doesn't cost the very earth?
