Dear Songwriters, Composers, and Artists,

Here's your chance to ask me something I might have missed in the chat during a recent episode! Throw anything at me, and I'll do my best to give you a great answer.

Ask me about anything – from TAXI-specific questions, to engineering or production questions, to music business questions, to music industry business etiquette queries, to questions about TAXI's screening/A&R process, to film/TV music questions (songs and instrumentals), to TAXI Road Rally questions, to just about anything else you can think of!

There’s no reasonable question that I won’t answer – even at the risk of embarrassing myself!

Your Best Chance to Get Your Question Answered:

Email your questions to taxitv@taxi.com no later than 10 am PST on Monday, April 26th.

Question 1.

Have you considered a 21st century method of submission feedback. Feedback is currently written and this also takes staff time after listening. How about recording real-time audio (vocal mic) feedback of submissions, which can be recorded simultaneously into a microphone while listening to submissions on headphones, this eliminates staff time and may result in better feedback in many cases. Since submissions are reviewed in remote location now (screeners' home studios), there is no noise conflict from multiple office cubicle neighbors, if recording voice feedback while listening. Simple ipad voice memo would be high enough quality to do this.

Question 2.

How about a discounted submission fee which includes no screener feedback thus no extra screener work time. Simply provide Accept / Reject result, or maybe simple score "Accepted / Acceptable yet not Suitable / Reject" result.

Question 3.

I am curious how much "textbook style" music theory famous musicians have or had, even if not formally trained. So how about Neil Young. Did he use any formal music terms in the studio. Did he ever say something like "it should go to the 9th chord in that part" which indicates some extended harmonic knowledge. Did he ever say something like "I'm singing the 5th on the verse but maybe it needs to be a 4th or 7th" which indicates melodic music theory knowledge. Did he ever say something like "that sus4 is needed to resolve down to the next chord's 3".

Most likely, they drank the 5th before, during, and after the recording session. :? 8-)

Question 4.

I will never buy NS10's for various reasons, or other very hi end monitors. Why is it not possible to use a software plugin (or maybe even simple EQ) on the master bus, to simulate a similar effect of listening via NS10's, and use that to A/B tracks in mixing.

Question 5.

Have you already heard, or could you listen to, Lou Reed's album "LULU" and report on a future stream, what you hear in it, and whether it would pass the Taxi quality bar for singer-songwriter, or indie rock band, etc.

Question 6.

What is the busiest time of year for screeners and what is the lightest time of year for screeners. And alternatively, what are the times of year when TAXI receives the most member submissions and the fewest member submissions.
