Austin & New Orleans

Hi
I’ve got tickets for the Road Rally this year and I’m travelling from the UK after which I’ll be spending a week or so in Austin and a week in New Orleans. Can anyone recommend any venues with live music or any must see bands/performers to look out for on my trip. I’d really appreciate receiving any local knowledge that anyone might have.

Hey, I live in New Orleans. It's pretty easy to find live music here. Most of the music venues are located on either Bourbon St. (mostly Top 40 bands, and some trad New Orleans Jazz), or Frenchmen St. (trad N.O. jazz while the sun is up, and pop/funk/rock once the sun goes down).

If you are trying to hear not so popular music, you can head to St. Claude Ave., where lots of local bands play their original music. Typically pretty small venues with small crowds.

I'll be at the Road Rally also, maybe we will run into each other there.
