I would add that more than the royalty-free use concern of a sample:
- there's always ways to twist and mess around with those being on websites like Splice etc: octaves, fx, rebuilding the audio file with others...
- Or simply create your own based one that got your attention and seems to match on your production: playing the notes of a funky bass sample on a new instrument plugin in your DAW etc.
