Just coming up for air and saw the activity here from almost a week ago.Hummingbird, it's good to see you back here 'filling in the form.' Wow! Great job on 45 songs in 79 days! I hope the other 5 come easily. Quote:sweat the small stuffGood luck with everything else including the 'small stuff' that can consume so much time.See you back here October 15th. Rayzer

Quote:What a JAWDROPPING thread! I don't know how I missed this one.Rayzer, you sure created a good monster. Thanks, Mark. It's good to have a monster in your corner (until you try to cross it). I've had a great time this past year figuring out how to make this passion of mine fit this life of mine. I still struggle with it, but the examples, encouragement and accountability found all over this forum have definitely helped push me through those rough spots. I hope I've had a part in doing that for some of you.Rayzer

Welcome to the October 15 Day of Accountability! This will be a quick check-in for me. Over the past 30 days I’ve been making contacts and learning creative ways to get the word out for a song about C.B. radio conversations and panties. I'm making progress, but still have more work to do. Web sites are in development, but are coming along. In other news: I got a forward this month! But enough living in the past, what about my future?Actions by November 15:1. Finish list of initial contacts2. Follow-up with those already contacted3. Choose material for Rally and make CDs4. Plan my personal schedule for the Rally 5. Attend the Rally and meet youI’m looking forward to meeting each of you and getting that ‘Rally boost.’ See you there!Rayzer

Welcome back to Being Deliberate!First of all, it was really great to put faces and voices to so many of the ‘dots.’Ted, I’m so glad we had a chance to meet and talk about the future of Being Deliberate. I have gotten so much out of checking in every month, but wasn’t sure if it had run its course. I’m glad there’s still interest and look forward to another productive year!If you’re new to this thread, welcome, and read some of page one to see what this is all about. Basically, every 15th of the month, we list what we’re going to do relating to music for the next month and tell how we did on the prior month. This thread has given me accountability, motivation, ability and permission to make my pursuit of music fit in a cluttered life. Day by day, little by little, a lot can be achieved by being deliberate in thoughts and actions. Without Being Deliberate, I would have made some progress over the past year, but not much. Life takes all your time if you let it. However, by being deliberate over the past 12 months, I’ve accomplished a lot of music-related goals including: reading books, figuring out a lot of software and studio gear, refining my focus and purpose, submitting to 19 listings and getting 6 forwards! This year, I’m excited to build on that and go further. So, here we go. Let's start fresh from right now.By December 15, I will:1. Finish the title song and create underscore for a Habitat for Humanity DVD I’m working on.2. Start reading a book I bought at the Rally.3. Make a gear wish list --So when my family asks, “What do you want for Christmas?” I can just say, “How much do you want to spend?” and give them my list. Simple as that. Here's to a great year!Rayzer

Last month … attended the rally, connected (with) the dots, got forwarded (1st in a long time), got better at mixing. This month 1) Replace my 7yr old PC with a new machine, and if budget allows – perhaps get East-West Orchestra; 2) Start applying some of the “keep it simple” arranging and mixing tips learned from the Rally. 3) Venture into electronica and sports-type instrumentals. (which means NOT playing jazz ….oooooh, that will be a challenge) Make mistakes - learn from 'em. Get as much support from this forum as possible to help "swim uphill" on the learning curve.

Hey, rayzer. This thread has been too motivational and inspirational and helpful for too many of us to let this disappear anytime soon. And, BTW, what a terrific treat/surprise to get to meet you at the Rally. For some strange reason, I didn't know ahead of time you were going to be there. This thread is one of my "to do" lists, and I need to keep up with it.But I'm just now answering (and I'm not in a location where I can take the time for a legit response.Promise to check in tomorrow.Ted

Hey rayzer!I'm so glad someone brought this link back up. I remember I used to do this!! Okay, my life is jes a series of work......I study, go to class, go home, counsel. Next day, same thing. Managed to squeak some work in on one song this semester and workin' on another right now. I'm a lil blue though. This is my last year in school as an undergrad, I'll be graduating in the spring reluctantly and my class load is even worse than this one. Also, I'm pretty broke. Christmas will be lean this year, like fo so many millions of Americans (and heck, 2/3 of the rest of the world!)Given that, here's my plan for the next month:1. Set up and play the Kurzweil a lovely friend gave me to replace the one I'd lost in the storm. I have some nerve damage affecting my singing/playing now so I'll need to learn midi as well, to clean up the messes. 2. Sing. A lot more. Tighten up those minute muscles in my neck and jaw and throat until I have immaculate control again. Learn to sing betta.3. Finish this semester, go out, find some friends who drink so I can pretend like I do too. Too bad medical marijuana isn't legal here (sigh). I'd live fo that.

Well for me......Per my last post, it has become more and more necessary for me to focus on my other business. I decided to take a sabbatical from the commercial pursuit music for .... as long as it takes ... to make sure that the other areas of life that should have priority get attention. I made my last five submissions to listings before letting the Taxi drop me off. Still waiting to hear back on the critiques and return. Its a matter of too much to do with so much talent and just not enough time. I am doing a complete review of my accounting firm's knowledge management, process efficiency and productivity, and adding new credentials and designations. I miss the music, but I am having fun and enjoying this endeavor. Music has otherwise been a big part of my life of the past 38 years, so there is no way it will suddenly disappear from my life. Its all still there, waiting for a new season of life to pick the next mountain and get a climbin' again.ArkJack
