Blues Instrumental *REVISED

Post by DBarnett » Thu Mar 24, 2022 2:48 pm

Howdy!
Here is the Original piece - "BB's A Knockin"
The REVISED link is on page 2, if you are interested in the differences

Thanks!

Lots of BLUES INSTRUMENTALS needed by a Film/TV Music Publisher for several (up to) $5,000 placements in an upcoming Feature Film.

This Publisher is on the hunt for quite a few Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references we got directly from them:

"The Thrill Is Gone" by B.B. King

"Boom Boom" by John Lee Hooker

"Smokestack Lightnin'" by Howlin' Wolf

Although the references are vintage, please submit RECENTLY RECORDED Instrumentals, rather than vintage recordings for this request.

Please submit top-notch Instrumentals that capture the character and attitude of traditional Blues music with fresh and current approach, and evoke a variety of moods and emotions for placements in different scenes. Your submissions should have engaging melodies, solid arrangements, and excellent musicianship. Instrumentation in the general style of the references will suit your submissions best. Please be sure your production is polished; and if you're planning on using any virtual instruments or samples, they should be high-quality and fresh, as well.

All submissions should be at least 2 minutes long and no longer than 5 minutes (give or take), with non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings. Do NOT copy the referenced examples in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

Would it be redundant to state that I like it...?
:? :P
Good luck with the review.

Really nice track for sure. Comparing it to the references though I think the bass drum is too heavy in the mix. This reminds me of a typical live gig where the engineers spend an hour tweaking the kick drum and thumping the audience regardless of the genre. ;) The listing mentions "current approach" though so this probably won't be an issue. In the references the kick is almost non-existent, or subtle. I'd also bring the harmonica solo more forward, as well as change the Rhodes sound to something more bluesy/distorted Rhodes, if not an organ. The tone used brings me to the 80s and might trigger the "sounds dated" police. ;)

Great track! I wanted the lead lines to be a bit more forward in the mix, but that's just me?
