Bossa Nova listing title confusion: vocals or not?

Post by Paulie » Fri Jun 02, 2023 6:51 am

Can we get clarification?
Headline says: "Lots of BOSSA NOVA INSTRUMENTALS and/or INSTRUMENTAL CUES with Male or Female Vocals are needed"
Description says: "Although some of the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals and/or Instrumental Cues only for this request."
There is no mention of vocals or sparse vocals in the details. I'm thinking that they want instrumentals only and that the headline is inaccurate.

[NEW LISTING]
Lots of BOSSA NOVA INSTRUMENTALS and/or INSTRUMENTAL CUES with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a Great Music Licensing Company with lots of Film and TV placements needs some great new tracks to meet increased demand in this genre!

This Library is on the hunt for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals (and/or Cues) that could be heard on a playlist with the following references:

"Corcovado" by Antonio Carlos Jobim
"Água de Beber" by Quarteto Jobim Morelenbaum
"Desafinado" by João Gilberto

Although some of the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals and/or Instrumental Cues only for this request.

Please send them in well-composed Bossa Nova Instrumentals (and/or Cues) that could instantly transport listeners to places like Brazil. Your submissions should have memorable melodies, Bossa Nova grooves, engaging instrumentation in the general wheelhouse of the references, and excellent musicianship. Solid arrangements with plenty of dynamics, forward motion, and interest are a must as well. We recommend performing your instruments live to help capture the authentic sound and feel needed here – the more your tracks sound like real musicians playing real instruments, the better! Please be sure your productions, and any virtual instruments or samples you may choose to use are of high quality and realistic-sounding – nothing overly MIDI-driven, stiff, or "looped"-sounding will work.

Your submissions should be roughly 90 Seconds long for Cues, and about 2 to 4 minutes long for Instrumentals, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Please do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so please be sure the Instrumentals and/or Cues you pitch for this opportunity are NOT already signed with any other Companies or Catalogs. Any sync fees will be split 50/50 with the Company. You'll get 100% of the Writer's share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher's share. You must own or control your Masters and Copyright to submit. Please submit as many Instrumentals and/or Cues as you'd like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Friday, June 23rd, 2023. TAXI # S230623BA

Looks like the listing has been corrected, "with Male or Female Vocals are needed" has been removed from the title. Thanks you taxi peeps! :)

From The Peanut Gallery - while it's a top-notch track, if I had to take a guess at what a screener comment might say...
"Lovely track, but the cross-stick/drum pops out too much for underscore (under dialog)..."

Or - if you had had time to post it up for Peer-To-Peer review, you might get a consensus suggesting something like:
"dial back the drum 3 or 4db - then listen to the playback at very low volume to determine if it sits better in the overall mix.

2 cents from old-guy ears.
:? :P

Good luck... maybe they'll dig & forward it just as it is.
Hope that's helpful,
Cheers.

I had already submitted before the correction I guess I can ask for the $5.00 credit/refund by emailing them?

Great 2 cents! Thanks Peter. Yes I totally agree about the rim shot thing... I listened to the Jobim reference tune and the rim shot was loud so I kept it, but I think you're absolutely right about that. Good tip to play in low volume to determine mix.
Will do it for my next submission :D

Cheers, Itamar
