Hello everyone. In my quest to get things up on a proper footing I'm looking at getting business insurance. I wonder if any of my UK-based taxi colleagues have experience and recommendations?
I'm new to the business and a fairly new taxi member. I think my set-up and ambitions are probably fairly typical though: work from home, all remotely delivered, international deals even though I'm UK-based. No live playing anywhere. I think I'm looking for professional indemnity cover, as well as maybe public liability, legal costs maybe, and anything else I should be looking at?
I'll probably get cover for my equipment through my current home insurer -- they've got a way of covering home business equipment as part of the policy.
Any good advice or recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks all,
Ali.

I am curious what types of risk you would like to get insurance coverage for?
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt. I'm sure I read (or heard on podcast or maybe even Taxi TV?) about insurance being important for composers in case they innocently produced a piece that someone thought sounded like their piece. I remember a phrase getting used in relation to that insurance: "errors and ommissions". So if you make a innocent error then you're covered.
Perhaps that would also cover things like forgetting a track was already signed before allowing another library to use it. Or maybe using a loop/sample you thought was cleared but turns out not to be. If things get heavy legally then you'd be covered?
I've just googled "errors and ommission music composer" and found lots of links to legal firms and insurance companies. It seems I've got roughly the right definition. Of course anyone who hopes to make money selling policies can tell you lots of horror stories!
Does anyone have any experience to lend?
Cheers,
Ali.

Personally I never take insurance on anything unless it's legally required. I guess it depends on your attitude to risk
