Can I submit a Cover?

Post by joesarahh » Thu Apr 04, 2024 9:53 am

So I am looking at listing S240425GV, which is asking for a one time use Emotional Piano piece. Cool, I have a cover that is a slow emotional piano cover of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" but I don't know if that's allowed. Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure that would be a no. (Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong...)

From Reading Listings class TM101 - If they wanted a cover, they'd ask for a cover. Also, see at the end of the listing: "You must own or control your Copyright and Master Recordings to pitch for this opportunity." If it's a cover, then you DO own the master recording, but you DON'T own the copyright."

You can only submit covers to listings that specifically request covers. In the absence of that, its a hard NO. :D

But - be encouraged - there HAVE BEEN listings for COVERS of songs - where you're given license and invitation to put your own spin on it.
Keep a lookout for those. Might be less painful.
