CD Baby or ReverbNation for Digital Distribution?
Looking to put some of my tracks up for digital distribution. I've used CD baby in the past, and I love CD baby. But after reading some recent discussions, it sounds like there may be some licensing issues with CD Baby, especially if my song gets picked up by a library or music supervisor. I've read through reverb's agreement and there doesn't seem to be any licensing discrepancies. Wanted to see what anyone else's experience is with these guys and what you would recommend.

Re: CD Baby or ReverbNation for Digital Distribution?
I have used CDBaby for physical distribution before and have stuff on ReverbNation - but my newest album is going through bandcamp.com. They are now charging (used to be free, but all good things...) but I really like the way you can configure the site and they offer download codes and free downloads, players, facebook integration... I'm giving them a try to see how it goes.
The other place I post stuff for download and not to purchase is soundcloud.com. You can't sell anything through them - but you can put a link on every track that people can find your store. They have both paid and free accounts. I use the free account and it has suited my needs thus far. I am thinking of moving up a level soon - but for now, free works.
You can see my stuff at either:
http://kayleclements.bandcamp.com or http://soundcloud.com/clementunes
Just a couple of more options to think about.

Thanks for the info kc. I'll check them out.
I guess my main question though (which I didn't phrase right), is about getting my tunes on Itunes. I have an album from the past that I sent via Cdbaby. Both have options for delivery to online stores.
I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Thanks,
Paul

KC,
I have some songs up on the Cloud also, but don't see the benefit. My tracks are at:
http://soundcloud.com/hookjaw-brown
If you could explain the benefits you have found, I would be grateful.
Choosing the distribution channels is always a head scratcher. I have used Tunecore and CDBaby and have gone with CDBaby for releases, mainly cause I can call and talk to them and they are friendly. With time, the releases show up everywhere, including European distribution channels. The tunes also show up on streaming internet sites and satellite radio. Thus the question of - what is with Sound Exchange? They supposedly collect royalties for internet and satellite radio, the 'Plays' data base shows song plays, but I can't get any info on payments.
Marketing is very time consuming!

musicliner..
Your link may be dated. I am releasing singles on CDBaby for $9.00 with full digital distribution. I don't have to send a physical CD unless I want to release an EP or a full Album. If one wishes to get on Pandora radio then you must get a physical CD with barcode to Amazon. This will cost you $35.00 and you must have a CD with cover art etc., and CDBaby will get it distributed to Amazon. AFAIK the singles will not be accepted by Pandora, even though they have barcode, since there is no physical CD.

I've used Tunecore and they are FAST. Submit one day, the very next day in iTunes, Amazon and Napster. A couple of days later it was everywhere else. You get special deals through Jango.com (online radio) which is a really interesting way to gauge and target your music to new people. And they have an expedited path to getting an artist account on Ping (if anyone cares about Ping) one day to get through the Ping approval, which is mind bogglingly fast.

I'm not sure how recent it is, but I found this article interesting:
http://www.garagespin.com/2009/03/09/7- ... on-itunes/
One thing that I've heard is that some of these sites charge you a yearly storage fee, and that's not always expressed up front. Anyone else heard of this?

I ended up using Reverbnation for my EP release. The one good thing about them is they don't take any moolah from your sales.
Tunecore sounds like a good idea. I'll have to check it out for my next release.
