Cello-based instrumental

Post by MJLeeman » Sat Mar 12, 2022 4:52 am

I think that this listing only came out a couple of days ago, but I managed to get the following track together, so I'm going to give it a go and submit the music.

https://www.taxi.com/members/nwRU7pygQr ... ul-timeout

I would be grateful to receive any pointers, suggestions, etc. I have used the East West Hollywood strings solo cello sample; for me the sound, particularly the inherent slight "raspiness" of the bowing seems to deteriorate as signal processing plugins are added, so I think that I am missing something in that regard - maybe less is more?

Thanks for any comments.

Cheers
Michael

CELLO-Based INSTRUMENTALS are needed by an EXCLUSIVE Music Library that's connected with many TV Production Companies and Showrunners for a specific Major Network Show!

This Library is on the hunt for several Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references we got directly from them:

"Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007: I. Prélude" by J.S. Bach, Performed by Yo-Yo Ma

"Nuvole bianche (Arr. for Two Cellos)" by Ludovico Einaudi, Performed by Mr & Mrs Cello

"Emotions" by Alain Grange

"Souvenirs" by Alain Grange

Quoting the Library: "We need pieces in a range of moods from sad, humorous, tongue-in-cheek, and fun, as well as drama for driving moments. The pieces could also be jazz-adjacent. We really want to try and keep the whole show feeling like it’s scored. [For this cello-based listing] we may also want other instruments to play with (i.e. piano, percussion, full orchestra, etc.), but we want the cello to be the playful element – almost like a character. Please do not add electronic beats / electronic drums or percussion of any kind. "

Please submit top-tier Instrumentals with Cello as the focal element in the arrangement that could work well in a range of TV show scenes. Your submissions should have engaging motifs, solid arrangements, and excellent musicianship. Your instrumentation can range from solo cello to cello accompanied by additional instruments (as mentioned above), but please be sure that the cello remains the prime focus in your pieces. Your production should be polished. If you choose to use any virtual instruments, they should sound indistinguishable from the real thing and not be stiff or obviously MIDI-driven. The more your pieces sound like they are being performed by real musicians, the better!

All submissions should be at least 90 seconds long, and can run up to 2 minutes (a little bit longer is fine). Well-crafted, buttoned/stinger endings are required – do NOT submit anything with faded endings. Do NOT copy the referenced tracks in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal. You’ll split all upfront sync fees 50/50. You’ll keep 100% of the Writer’s share and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher’s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is not already signed with other Libraries or Catalogs. Please submit as many Instrumentals as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. NO DEADLINE EXTENSIONS for this request. Sorry folks, but we're on an extremely tight deadline, so please don't even ask! Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Saturday, March 12th, 2022. TAXI Dispatch # D220312CE

Lots of BLUES INSTRUMENTALS needed by a Film/TV Music Publisher for several (up to) $5,000 placements in an upcoming Feature Film.

This Publisher is on the hunt for quite a few Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references we got directly from them:

"The Thrill Is Gone" by B.B. King

"Boom Boom" by John Lee Hooker

"Smokestack Lightnin'" by Howlin' Wolf

Although the references are vintage, please submit RECENTLY RECORDED Instrumentals, rather than vintage recordings for this request.

Please submit top-notch Instrumentals that capture the character and attitude of traditional Blues music with fresh and current approach, and evoke a variety of moods and emotions for placements in different scenes. Your submissions should have engaging melodies, solid arrangements, and excellent musicianship. Instrumentation in the general style of the references will suit your submissions best. Please be sure your production is polished; and if you're planning on using any virtual instruments or samples, they should be high-quality and fresh, as well.

All submissions should be at least 2 minutes long and no longer than 5 minutes (give or take), with non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings. Do NOT copy the referenced examples in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

The estimated license fee for each placement is up to $5,000, depending on the ultimate use. This Publisher offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 deal. You’ll split any applicable sync fees 50/50. You’ll keep 100% of the Master rights and the Writer’s share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher's Share for any placements they generate. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit for this opportunity. Please submit as many Instrumentals as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by a TAXI screener that was hand-picked by the Music Publisher. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022. I have my own opinion on this, but frankly speaking and based on some of the recent returns and forwards I've heard here lately, you've got a 50:50 shot at getting a forward. Personally I would return this based on the MIDI sounding cello... see the note attacks around the 0:10 mark as an example. I think the music is perfect for the listing, but the performance might get you a return. Then again, listening to the Forwards blog I've heard some truly MIDI sounding music get forwarded...

I received a return from a cello listing, one of the comments said "Check the tuning on your cello. At times it seems to drift off away from the piano. Subtle auto-tuning should be able to help with this." Maybe the screener should give Tina Guo a call and suggest auto-tune? I was using her fantastic cello library... the fact that the screener thought it was a real musician is a testament to the quality of that library.
