It's different for each listing, or it can be; learning to interpret the listings is the single biggest hurdle in this game, for most of us. Don't know if many forum-ites have a lot of forwards in children's music, but you can always post your proposed submissions and the listing in Peer To Peer to get feedback before submitting-lots of folks hereabouts have kids and are happy to lend an ear.

I've written 3 theme songs for kids cartoons (a fourth is on the way).
I also wrote a song for Moshi Monsters, an English toy brand. it got 100k views on the site.
Having a character in mind is very helpful
