Clip From Recent YnR Placement

Post by Casey H » Mon Oct 10, 2022 10:17 am

Shannon Hurley and I had this recent placement of our co-write, "I Just Wish You'd Look At Me That Way" on The Young and the Restless. They song ran for around 2:15 so it should pay nice backend $$$. 8-)

Thank you Shannon, Taxi, and a very Taxi-friendly music publisher! :D

The scene would have been better if they turned your tune up to 10 :P

WTG, Casey - indeed - would much rather the song be the highlight of that 'scene'...
it's hard to imagine people actually watch that stuff.
I guess - lucky for your wallet, some do.
I rarely turn on a TV anymore, for anything.
Life's so much more fun without it.

All placements are good. That's what we do this for. And daytime soaps on network TV are among the best PRO money sources. To be in this business of Film/TV placements (if you want to be), you have to not think about whether you like the shows or not, just what kind of music do they use and how can you pitch to those uses. We have Taxi member friends who've made tons of money on KUWTK placements. I've had placements on Toddlers and Tiaras, Real Housewives, and all sorts of gems.

I remember a long while back advising a newbie here to watch reality TV shows and make notes of all the cue types they use. The person said "no way". Well, that's fine, their choice, but that's where a lot of the money is in our business. These shows use a huge amount of production library music and rerun around the clock all over the world. I have some placements on MTV's "Catfish" and ones from over 10 years ago are still paying dividends.

Also, vocal songs are much harder to place on TV than instrumental cues. Soaps like YnR use lots of vocal songs so it opens up a door for those of us who are more vocal songwriters, than cue composers.

Of course when we are all rock stars, we can be more choosy. I still have a few months to go before that.
