ArthurI think your song would be greatly enhanced with a little pitch correction to the vocal. Not a "nice" howdy, but the honest truth.paul

It's a nice tune but if you're "going for the Nashville market" it's going to be tough to put it up against what gets cranked out here every day. Lyrically the song needs more than a lot of "let's talk about"s - especially since Toby Keith did "I Want To Talk About Me". If your hook is "Talk About Love" you could actually talk about love - what it's like - in visual terms. Talk about walking hand in hand in the woods on a winter day, talk about your making the coffee when she's feeling tired, talk about whispers in the dark, talk about your five year old crawling into bed with you. That's love. Talk about it. Claire

As Paul said, the vocal really needs to be pitch corrected, especially on the chorus's. Claire makes a lot of good points too, this one needs some work, IMHO.Buc

Hi Buc, Claire, and PaulThanks for the listens and feed back. This is why I'm here! Honest feedback to help me get my songs to the next level Just to clarify, this is my rough demo that I'm putting up for feedback mainly on song structure, lyric, melody and vibe. Looking to get some songs to the point where it's worth the $ for a real demo I can pitch. I'm basically a blues artist who is branching out songwise, soI'm fully aware that my vocal will not sell this song. I must admit I have a VERY strong resistance to pitch correction of any kind when it comes to what I personally record, and am none too fond of it as a listener, TBH. I definitely need to work on my vocals, especially for this style, but I'd rather listen to myself warble away so I can zero in on the problem areas and become a better singer (of course if I write something someone actually wants to cut they can pitch correct away! Claire, lyrically I was going full-on into the conversational and not so much for the descriptive, but thanks for the comments, I may try a rewrite with more imagery. Thanks again y'all and "nice" to meet youYours in MusicArthur James

ArthurYou have a winning attiude.I use melodyne to fix the real bad ones. The nice thing is you can view the lined screen and see how far off the note you were. ( I usually say outloud "man, you weren't even close on that one") I set my at 90%. That means it will correct only that percentage of that frequency.Another way to do it is just pick out the real bad ones (out of the lines completely) and just fix those. Some days I can sing half decent as far as pitch goes, but some days are a trainwreck. My premise is that if somebody is going to listen to your song,(especially the first time) you should take away the single element that might pull it down. I guess I feel the same way about midi and loops as you do about pitch correction.I respect the way you feel about it. It IS cheating, but I will not be the one singing the final draft anyway.Nice meeting you too.Paul

Arthur, this is a pretty cool song, although I have to agree that your vocals are pitchy. But you've also said this is a rough demo, so that can fixed. On the positive side, you do sing it with a lot spirit, so that's a good thing. I can tell that you put your heart and soul into the performance even though it came out pitchy....so you're going in the right direction at least. As for the lyrics...I think it's the type of love song Nashville would appreciate, but you might have to rewrite just a few lines.....the lines, "I played the fool,"'the heartache and joy it brings," etc....sound a little tired, lines like that have been used a lot, but if you tweak that a bit, I think this song has a lot of potential. If you can figure out a way to say those lines with a little more originality, you're almost there.I know how hard it is to do that though.....seems like everything has already been written.

Thanks Chits for the helpful input and kind words. The pitchy vocal is the weak link for sure. All those years singing the blues, problybenjamine, I didn't find your comment helpful at all and PMed you about itYours in MusicArthur James

hey Arthur...I picked up something immediately in the mix... production wise, I think U need to cut away some mids in the vox... either that or lower the vol... It sounded really piercing to my ear... Yes, and definitely slap on a light compressor/limiter to even out the vox velocity...Another thing is... on the Chorus part, U might wanna use melodyne to correct the pitch if U don't wanna do a retake... it's a little too pitchy to ignore IMHO.I think this track has a lot of potential but really need fixing in those areas mentioned above...Also, add some bass if U haven't already... I think it would make the mix sound more rounded, if that makes any sense...This is not a genre I'm too familiar with but production wise is what I can tryta share here...Peaz,Kel
