I would sway away from any key changes, but switching the order of the chords for one section is a good idea. So if your A section is 1,6,4,5 you can use those same chords but in a different order for your B section: 4,5,6,5 creating a nice resolution when you go back to the 1 for your final section. You'd still be keeping the same mood throughout the piece while providing a nice variation for the listener.
About a year ago, there were many listings popping up, requesting the same motif throughout...and the listings specifically were looking for composers to show off their production skills rather than their composition skills...maybe wanting to hear many different dynamic variations of the same motif. I'm not seeing those listings anymore.
All that being said, still keep it simple with the chord changes. You don't have to be Dream Theater.

Also you don't have to change chord at the start of every bar, switching up the timing of the chord changes can also help relieve monotony
