Does this song work for the classical crossover market?

Post by lovefilmmusic » Wed Apr 24, 2013 5:12 am

Dear all,

This is my song on Soundcloud. I target it for a classical crossover singer. Could you have a listen and advise how suitable it is? Your comments are greatly appreciated.

Song title: A spring for love

Lyrics:

Is there a time for love? Is there a time when we fly way up high
When you are free to say you love me
When a love no one knew will in the world. Is there a time?

Chorus:
There’ll be a time for love if you hold my hand
Lay down all your love on the one who loves you
There’s ll be a time to forget all the fears outside
The prison inside

Is there a time for love? Yes my love
We are so strong through the darkest and the coldest night
And the word of goodbye

Chorus:
There’ll be a spring for love if you hold my hand
Lay down all your love on the one who loves u
If not for you, who will I fight for?
My freedom now, I give to you.

Bridge: Someday you don’t ask if a bird in a chain could be heard to sing a song
Somewhere today no man’s land will blossom a love so long

A spring will come for love if you hold my hand
Lay down
If not for you, who will I fight for?
My freedom now, I give to you.

Hi there,

This is interesting.

I think you are on the right track with an artist listing. There have been some occasional "Sarah - Josh" listings and this would be in that ballpark.

It is a beautiful song that is well written and arranged. The production is good too. I would be curious to hear what a soprano would sound like on this. (Nothing against the vocalist) but to my ears this is more of a "Sarah song" than a Josh. (and of course I mean Sarah Brightman)

Now I am not a good lyric writer so don't take this too personal but for me, the word love is in there a little too much. It gets awkward. Aside from that I think there is some potential here. It would probably be rare for a film/TV listing for this to fit. Possible but more likely for an artist like you mentioned.

Hope that is of use. I enjoyed listening. :)

Hi,

Your comments are great and really appreciated. I re-read my lyrics and realize, as you pointed out, that the word 'love' appears too often. I did not realize this until I had your feedback.

Originally I wrote this song for a friend of mine. And yes, she is a lady. So your feeling was right, that it was meant for a female voice.

Thank you again for your taking the time and listening to the song.

Hi

You have a great grasp of arrangement and timbre. Sparse but effective. Pretty. Very emotional. I think you should submit this for those AC listings- celine Dion, etc. But the ones you should really seek out are those listings from Asian libraries. I worked in Taiwan for a spell and your music would fit beautifully. Highly emotional. Sweeping. I'd say a tad too sweeping for some screeners here, but I could be wrong...

Nice listen
Graham

Hi Graham,

Your intuition is right. I'm originally from Vietnam, so my music has some Asian sensibility. Your comment confirms what I usually feel, that is, perhaps my songs should be targeted to a Taiwan/China publisher. I have tried to find a Chinese lyricist but did not find one yet.

May I ask if there are many Asian listings in Taxi? Or do you know a website where one can pitch the songs to a Taiwan/Chinese artist or publisher?

My sincere thanks,

I used to see them. Someone else might know more. I don't think I've seen one for a while....

Best of luck!
