Dooya Doncha

Post by aubreyz » Sun Jul 08, 2007 6:57 pm

I can't imagine the pace that songwriter is keeping... so we're just plodding along trying to knock out a song per weekend This one is continuing the psychedelic trip we are on right now. Really digging the direction. This is pretty rough... a faders up mix with scratch vocals. Would love to get some feedback before laying final vocals and mixing. Thanks.Dooya DonchaHey now, whachu gonna do whenEverybody does itAnd they all leave you outHey now, whachu gonna say whenEverybody says itAnd you don't know what it's aboutDooya dooya dooyaWant itDoncha doncha donchaNeed itWooja wooja woojaGive it all you've got, to be so hotAnd conspicuously cool.Hey now, are you gonna chance itEverybody's dancingAnd you're just standing stillHey now, if you're ever gonna make it outYou've gotta break outOf the shape you're inDooya dooya dooyaWant itDoncha doncha donchaNeed itWooja wooja woojaGive it all you've got, to be so hotAnd conspicuously cool.(repeat)You'd rather be riding in a limoWith all your stuff hanging out of the windowBecause nobody notices youIn your little SubaruDooya dooya dooyaWant itDoncha doncha donchaNeed itWooja wooja woojaGive it all you've got, to be so hotAnd conspicuously cool.(repeat)

Thanks Randy. Makes perfect sense. Kind of what I had in mind. A real old sounding, tubed out vocal sound. Laid back I will consider too. Cool idea. (btw the scratch IS laid back for me )Glad you are digging this direction. We're pretty sold that this is "our" sound. I hope to have time this week to finish this, but have a pretty solid production schedule.... so we shall see.Aub

Hey Aub, I really like the music in this, particularly the guitar. I know it's a rough, but I'm finding the background vocals kinda too sweet & pure for the rest of the song, and they seem to overpower a little bit. If this is a psychedelic trip I'd expect the b.g. vox (or at least one track of them) to flow in and out in a spacey sort of way (the 'ooh ooh-ooh ooh' could go back in the mix). I like the lead vox in terms of the quality of the voice but I agree re getting a tubed out sort of quality to match the rest. Those are my only nits, otherwise I think it's altogether groovy, man

Quote:This is not my style of music, so I can't compare it to anything. But, it sounds like it's ready and just needs the right landing spot. The falsetto b/v's seem a little loose in spots. Is that intentional? I think they could use a bit of auto-tuning and I would like to hear a bit more chorus or doubling on them. The lead vocal and the driving guitars work well. Nice job to both of you.Thanks. I debated on the BGV, and chose to leave them a little raw. They are not stacked as much, or tightened like I normally do --- At the time it seemed to work, kind of giving it a live retro thing, but it may just seem sloppy. I'll listen tomorrow with fresh ears.... and will probably decide it's time for 28 more bgv tracks Aub

Nice job on this, Aub. Very well produced and very commercial. I can hear this in the soundtrack of some car or Internet commercial. Very catchy. It's a big change from the last stuff I heard from you. It's great work. Keep it up!

Re: Your first posted version. I like the song and I like the instrumental piece at the very end. It's actually your ending. No. I'm not saying I'm glad when the song finally ends. It just gets more sparse and clear sounding at that point and it adds a very interesting dynamic. The music behind the lyrics is similar most of the way to the end in it's volume and density and then it changes to this sparser sound. I would like to hear this last bit of sparser slower music incorporated in another couple of places in the song to add some variety to the instrumentals. Loud and fast, then, pause slower/sparser/ then loud and fast and so on. I hope I'm making sense here. Overall, I think it's good. Better than anything I have been able to produce so far.
